News A new Fabio Quartararo Replica design for the HJC Rpha 1 Carbon helmet

Fabio Quartararo will be one of the most closely watched transfers for 2017, moving to Honda after eight years with Yamaha. However, the French rider isn’t switching helmet brands and will continue to wear an HJC helmet. Ahead of unveiling its 2027 collection, the Korean brand is introducing a new limited-edition Fabio Quartararo Replica helmet design.

This RPHA 1 v2 Carbon, dubbed “Funky Diablo,” is a replica of the helmet worn by Fabio during the 2025 Catalan Grand Prix. Visually, the model showcases the carbon fiber structure of its shell, contrasted by neon-colored patterns. This special edition is currently available through the brand’s distribution network.

Dual Competition-Oriented Certification

This new model follows in the footsteps of the RPHA-1, launched three years ago, and the RPHA-10 that preceded it. The RPHA 1 v2 Carbon meets current safety standards with dual certification: the European ECE 22.06 standard, as well as the FIM-02 (FRHPhe-02) standard, required for participation in official international competitions. With this 100% carbon shell, the manufacturer is specifically targeting the market for track gear intended for professional riders and regular amateur track riders.

Aerodynamic Development

The shell design was validated through wind tunnel testing and track testing conducted by riders under contract with the brand. The stated technical objective is to optimize the balance between aerodynamic drag, ventilation, and the stability of the rider’s head at high speeds.

The helmet features a rear spoiler designed to limit lateral movement and neutralize lift (upward) and downforce (downward) forces. A spoiler extension, included with the helmet, can be attached to it to further reduce aerodynamic drag.

In terms of fit, HJC uses four sizes of outer shell and four EPS inner liners to offer seven final sizes, ranging from 2XS to 2XL.

Ergonomics and Interior Safety

Inside, the foam pads are covered with a 3D fabric featuring SilverCool technology, a process designed to accelerate moisture wicking. The entire lining is removable. The cheek pads are interchangeable, with four thicknesses available in the catalog to allow for a personalized fit based on the user’s head shape. The helmet is also equipped with a quick-release system for the cheek pads, designed to make it easier for emergency responders to remove the helmet in the event of a fall.

Visor System and Standard Accessories

The model is equipped with a 2D visor featuring eccentrically adjustable lugs, designed for installing an anti-fog lens on the inside and disposable films (tear-offs) on the outside. The opening mechanism relies on new dual-pivot plates. While the visor can be removed without tools, it is secured in place by an anti-ejection screw—which can be operated by hand or with a Phillips-head screwdriver—to prevent accidental detachment. The visor is locked in the closed position by a double latch located on the left side of the visor, ensuring a airtight seal along the 3D gasket.

The RPHA-1 v2 Carbon comes with several additional accessories: a Pinlock 120 XLT anti-fog insert, a dark-tinted visor, a pack of tear-off films, and a rear spoiler extension.
