presentation of the Coaster 407 2026

Rieju is building an increasingly extensive lineup. After expanding its trail bike offerings, the brand is now introducing a custom bike that brings its own rock ’n’ roll vibe: the Coaster 407. This is a first for the Spanish brand, which is now introducing a sleek, understated machine for cruising with a Costa Brava vibe. But it has nothing to do with Spain or the Catalan coast.

Let’s not give away the mystery just yet. Let’s let this sleek, slender, and rather dynamic little custom bike make its mark. There’s nothing unattractive about it; its rear end is reminiscent of both Suzuki’s big Intruders and a Harley Softail (especially with its faux-rigid swingarm and Tommy Gun exhausts), and it looks bigger than it actually is. It’s not the frog that wants to be bigger than the ox, but it does have a knack for flattery.

Its niche: style. Its setting: the city. Its engine: a twin, but a modest one. Because while many customs have strayed (and continue to stray) from the category’s flagship engine, the 407 Coaster proudly boasts—as it should—a V-twin. To establish its legitimacy, “Since 1942” badges are proudly emblazoned on the cylinder heads. It looks impressive, but that’s about as far as it goes.

A small heart from a major manufacturer

For one thing, because this engine isn’t very big. With 384 cm³ and 34.6 chevaux under the hood, the Coaster is limited to cruising in and around town. Admittedly, that’s the niche it’s intended for, but with 36 Nm of torque, acceleration will feel modest. And that “1942”—the year Rieju was founded—is very cute and nostalgic, but it in no way reflects the engine’s DNA, or even that of the brand.

Because the Coaster 407 has nothing Iberian about it. Like more and more models from Rieju, it’s a clone from China. A copy of the Xiangshuai Yes 418 AMT, which is also available from Marshal under the same name. As a result, its vibe of beaches and cowboy boots isn’t really that of a Café del Mar…

Unprecedented technology for a custom bike

But its Chinese origin also means it comes with features that will surprise many on a custom bike. Starting with the AMT automated manual transmission. That’s right—this custom bike features an automated transmission. A set of electromechanical actuators is mounted on the engine to handle the clutch and shifting through the six gears. The rider can choose between fully automatic operation or manual shifting using triggers on the handlebar controls. This system is very similar to Yamaha’s Y-AMT, found on the MT and Tracer models. But it’s more basic, less sporty, and features simplified parameter management.
However, an automated transmission on a custom bike is rare. Aside from the Honda 1100 Rebel in its DCT version and the low-key CTX 700, such options are virtually nonexistent.

The tech features also include traction control, ABS, a circular LCD screen, a keyless system, an anti-dribble clutch, two USB ports (A and C), and full LED lighting. The chassis is quite conventional, featuring a tubular steel frame, a small 37-mm fork, wide tires for show—13 cm and 18 cm wide— modest braking with a single 300-mm front disc clamped by a Nissin two-piston caliper plus a 240-mm rear disc, and stylish multi-spoke aluminum rims. With a seat height of just 690 mm from the ground, the Coaster is designed to make it easy to hop on.

Rieju surprises us

It could have been called Kevin; instead, it’s making its debut as the Rieju. The first custom bike from the Figueras-based brand isn’t positioning itself as a powerhouse; rather, it’s billed as a Friday-night cruiser with a killer price and a surprising amount of technology for a machine in this category. Just over 5,000 for a “bad boy” that offers the ease of riding a scooter.

Awesome
French Model 2026
I love it! Low seat, large fuel tank, belt drive, and automatic transmission... It’s very tempting. As the owner of a Rebel 1100 DCT, I might miss the engine’s “kick,” but it really does have some serious advantages—especially when it comes to fuel economy, I suppose.... Rating : 5/5
