presentation of the 1000 V-STROM Tourer 2014
In the absence of a big GT in its range, Suzuki is directing travel enthusiasts towards accessorized versions of the riding machine of the moment: the maxi-trail. The over-equipped model from Hamamatsu is called the 1000 V-Strom Tourer. With a wealth of options to choose from, this machine can now be used for long-distance touring and even long-distance escapades. Luggage, yes; but not just luggage!
A big 1000 sticker on the sides, LED indicators and a sabot add to the look. Things get more serious with the protective accessories: casing protectors to save gear in case of a spill on the trail, a 50 mm higher Touring bubble to relieve neck strain, and hand protectors that are much appreciated in rainy or cold weather. A center stand is also included to facilitate routine maintenance. Above all, the rear of this big V-Strom makes you want to load the mule. Three cargo bays hold luggage, belongings and other items. The top-case holds 35 liters, the left suitcase 29 liters and the right 26 liters (the potty eats up some volume).
Easy to handle, almost playful and powered by a healthy twin, the 1000 V-Strom should lose a little agility what it gains in range. With this Tourer pack on its hips, weight should be just over 250 kilos. Muscle-wise, the engine's 10.5 mkg will have no trouble lifting the trail, and the 100 hp are ready and willing. Even if it's a long way from the performance of a Ducati Multistrada or KTM Adventure, the Suz is offering the essentials at an affordable price. On the menu: a 1037 cm3 twin, aluminum perimeter frame, 43 mm inverted fork, 4-piston radial calipers, 310 mm discs and ABS, traction control, adjustable bubble and seat. In this definition, the well-equipped V-Strom 1000 Tourer is priced €1,000 less than the BMW R 1200 GS... naked. Okay, the aura and performance aren't on the same level. But it's food for thought.

* We didn't take the GSX 1250 FA into account, as this tourer is closer to a large, streamlined roadster than a true GT.
