presentation of the SG 350 N Goose 1992
The first photos of the Suzuki SG 350 N Goose appeared in French newspapers in 1992. Presented as a very likely import, it made many sporty single-cylinder enthusiasts salivate. Unfortunately, it never made it to France.
This little motorcycle was designed for a single purpose: to take part in speed competitions reserved for single-cylinder bikes; competitions not very common in France.
The single-cylinder engine borrowed from the DR350S has been seriously adapted for this new use.
The most visible modification is undoubtedly the oil tank mounted under the engine sill and the small radiator. In fact, in order to improve the reliability of its single-cylinder engine and enable it to be used more intensively, Suzuki did not content itself with the air cooling of the DR's engine. The Goose's engine has a mixed air/oil cooling system inspired by the GSX-R range.
After replacing the overhead camshaft for a racing model and the valves for larger-diameter models, and replacing the carburetor, the engine gains 4 hp to reach 33 hp at 8,000 rpm.
While this power may seem low, it's only the homologation model. In fact, the competition version presented by Suzuki at the same time as the road model develops over 40 hp.
The chassis is 100% new. Suzuki has focused on handling and lightness. The road model weighs 145 kg, but the competition version loses over 20 kg. Both versions are equipped with high-quality suspension (inverted fork and monoshock). The 300mm front disc with 4-piston caliper lives up to its racing vocation, while the rear disc simply acts as a retarder and stabilizer on corner entry.
The road version's 33 horsepower propel it to a respectable 170 km/h as soon as the track allows it to gather momentum.
Qualities that still make us regret its non-importation. What's more, it's a very attractive sports car, accessible to young drivers with a 34 hp license.
