presentation of the 1050 V-Strom XT Sakigake 2020
There's no end of surprises when it comes to bikes. Take the new Suzuki 1050 V-Strom. It's not even on sale yet, the price has not yet been set for France... and already a special edition is on the way. Not for everyone, not for us: the Sakigake edition is a proposal from Italy, with a few special features.
Let's not get too carried away, though: this is more a matter of publicity than exception. The Sakigake is simply the new big V-Strom XT equipped with a 38-liter top-case and a set of 37-liter panniers. Each element is trekking-style, made from 1.5 mm-thick aluminum panels. The more distinctive identity of this limited series can be seen in the red ideogram on the suitcases. The aim is to confirm the bike's vocation and give its image a boost. Once decked out, it's true that it makes you want to go a little further than the mousetrap forest.
The V-Strom 1050 XT Sakigate isn't something you can just walk into. You first have to reserve one of the 10 models via the dedicated website, by selecting the dealer of your choice. After paying a deposit of 500 euros, the dealer will contact you to finalize the purchase. Then all that's left to do is settle the bill of 15,890 euros and wait for... the little bonus of these 10 units: they'll be the first 1050 V-Strom to hit the Italian market.
By the way, what does "Sakigake" mean? We can't really translate it; it would be more appropriate to see it as a symbol, an idea, a concept, rather than a literal word. Sakigake expresses the notion of the pioneer, the one who takes the first step forward. The association with this V-Strom may seem pompous, but in the final analysis, it's in line with the idea of "First Edition", which goes hand in hand with certain new models, to help launch them by honoring their equipment.
