presentation of the 900 DAYTONA SUPER III 1995

The Super "III" is both a limited series and an evolution of Triumph's sporty Daytona. A limited series, because only 500 units are planned, of which only 50 will be sold in France.
Evolution, because the Super III benefits from the technological advances that the British factory has been accumulating since its rebirth. As a result, this machine was extensively modified, a process that was to be extended to all Hinckley products in the future.

Cosworth, that rings a bell...! Well, they're the ones who designed this Daytona's new crankcases and cylinder heads. These components have lost weight while gaining in rigidity. Hidden by the fairing, you won't see much of the main modifications, such as the new castings, the new camshaft profile, the changes made to the primary transmission, the starter motor, the ignition box...
Yet this British sports car exudes more charisma than the standard version. And that's not because of its technical specifications, which will go unnoticed by the neophyte biker or lambda observer. In addition to its "so british" class, the Super III has plenty to flatter you with its carbon mufflers and mudguards, black "SUPER III" badging on the rear flanks, dark-tinted swingarm and new six-piston brake calipers. Triumph has also changed the rims to Brembo cast-aluminum models, combining weight savings and increased rigidity. Let's talk about weight. Do you know how much lighter the engine has become with its new parts? 4.5 kilos. All in all, the bike has lost 9 kg and its unbridled power output has increased to 117 hp. But at 255 kg fully loaded, it's still closer to the sportivo-gt category than to the pure pistardes. That's all right, because it's not radicalism (and its attendant shortcomings) that it's after. She's a Lady, not a Ninja.

This impression was confirmed when we climbed aboard. The riding position, slightly reclined and resting on the wrists, is no different from that of the original model. As you grab hold of the machine, the weight comes to mind, but only for the time it takes to manoeuvre the bike, because once balanced on its wheels, the Daytona becomes homogeneous and pleasant to ride. Riding the Triumph is like riding a custard. It's a welcome change from the sake of Japanese productions. The engine's strength lies in its torque and roundness, which sets it apart from 4-cylinders with their power nestled at the top of the rev counter. While the Daytona can't compete with the fierce sportiness of its rivals, it's far more pleasant in terms of comfort. The suspension does an excellent job of combining efficiency and lumbar support. Rolling up is always a pleasure, thanks to this damping and the character of the engine, two major assets in the behavior of this machine.
The other strong point is the highly respectable braking. The 12-piston double-disc unit is very proportional and not aggressive, proving its astonishing generosity and efficiency without restraint. With all this, it's hard to resist the temptation to go for a spin. The bike plays with you, but its weight makes itself felt when the rhythm shifts to attack. You can't forget more than 250 kg like that...

By the time you get home, your wrists are starting to ache; a sacrifice to sportiness, which is a little at odds with the overall pleasantness of this endearing, friendly sportbike. On the road, however, there's no need to worry, aided by a complaisant seat, a fairing that provides adequate protection, and an engine that delivers a more than respectable cruising speed.
At more than 8 bricks, this beautiful object almost becomes a jewel. It's a high price to pay for the scent of England, but it's also the price of originality.
