presentation of the 1200 TROPHY 2013

10 years. A decade since the Trophy had been absent from the Triumph catalog. In the Grand Touring sector, only the Rocket III Touring could defend the bastion. But this behemoth was intended more for highways and cruising, an interesting competitor to the Harley Electra Glide and Victory Cross Road.
The return of Hinckley's iconic tourer, the Trophy, is therefore a welcome development. And in 10 years, the bike has had time to embrace the latest trends in styling, technology, electronics and fashion. But is there any nod to its forebear?
From 1996 to 2003, the Trophy ( 900 or 1200 ) was a majestic motorcycle, full of curves and voluptuous styling. A true English lady, with generous curves and an extraordinarily British silhouette.

the 2013 Trophy ignores this past and takes its inspiration from the competition and German references. Critics cried copycat when Triumph presented the 1200 Tiger Explorer... Now they'll be screaming plagiarism with this 1200 Trophy, a veritable clone of the BMW R 1200 RT. Same look, same type of integrated mirrors with inlaid indicators, same angular design, same rear end, and let's not even talk about the single-arm. There's even an engine cover inspired by the K 1600 GT. All in all, the bike is not lacking in class or presence, except that the feeling of déjà-vu is omnipresent. Twin sisters from different families.

let's stop criticizing its form and concentrate on its substance. For the English brand will be playing its trump card: its 3-cylinder engine. The block, housed in a new aluminum frame, is none other than the big 1215 cm3 of the Explorer trail bike. Slightly revised, it boasts slightly less maximum power, 134 hp, but available at a lower rpm (8,900 rpm). A copious 12.2 mkg of torque ensures that the muscle is always available. Much more charming than a 4-cylinder and more flexible than a twin, the triple is not short of arguments. And many people praise the performance of the big twelve-hundred in the brand's big trail-GT.

Moteur de la Trophythe 1200 Trophy's 301 kilos (fully loaded) are easy to lift off the ground with this big mill. Only the Kawasaki 1400 GTR (304 kg) and Honda ST 1300 Pan-European (324 kg) outweigh it on the scales - by contrast, an R 1200 RT tops out at 259 kg, or one fridge less in terms of weight.
Have they put lead in the saddlebags?! No, just a plethora of equipment. On board the 1200 Trophy, the rider falls under the comfort trap: 20 mm height-adjustable seat, cruise-control, ABS and coupled braking, electrically adjustable bubble with memory, disconnectable traction control, acceleratorride-by-wire accelerator, coded key, 31-liter side panniers, small waterproof glovebox in the fairing return with 12V socket, plus a whole host of trinkets. And the list goes on with the SE version described below.
A few details on some of the equipment:
/ Electric bubble: memorizes position. Switch off the ignition and the bubble returns to its original position; switch on the ignition and the bubble returns to its original position
/ Dynamic luggage system. The panniers feature an internal movement system to isolate the contents from motorcycle vibrations. This also reduces the impact on chassis stability.

la Trophy 1200 2013

what exactly does this chassis offer? Well, it's classic, tried and tested, everything you need to make an efficient and safe GT. The frame is an aluminum perimeter structure, extended by an inverted WP fork at the front, and finished off at the stern by a cardan monobracket. Braking is provided by three discs: two 320-mm front discs clamped by traditional 4-piston calipers, and a 282-mm rear disc with a double-piston caliper - the coupling ensures front braking when the rear is applied. the fuel tank holds 26 liters of fuel. And if the dynamic behavior of the bike has received the utmost attention, dethroning the exceptional efficiency of the RT reference would be no easy task - to be confirmed on the road.

with its new 1200 Trophy, Triumph wants to make its mark in a hyper-selective segment, where customers are more demanding. It has what it takes to please, and by playing it up in terms of pricing, its engine and equipment should stir up the market somewhat.

Duo en Triumph Trophy 1200 2013

in the Triumph catalog, many models come with a richly-equipped SE version. The 1200 Trophy also comes with a premium version, with even more refined equipment. For a few extra euros, the Trophy S.E. offers electronically-controlled suspension - rebound is adjustable to 3 positions ( sport / normal / comfort ) front and rear.the amorto also benefits from a 3-mode preload (pilot, pilot + luggage, pilot and passenger).
An on-board Bluetooth audio system with speed-dependent volume control, an MP3/iPod/iPhone-compatible USB port, a tire-pressure gauge, a heated seat and an additional 12V socket complete the package. The SE retails for 18,870 euros, almost 1,600 euros more...

An almost perfect bike for travelling. I've just made a trip to Spain and Ireland with it, and even on the twists and turns of the Irish "cols" of the Kerry peninsula or Dingle, I never had any difficulty, thanks to its remarkable chassis and lightness even at 5km/h. What's more, I never consumed more than 5.4 per 100. What's more, I've never consumed more than 5.4 litres of fuel per 100 km. Its only flaw, which is very minor, is the radio control quomodo, but I don't spend my time zapping when I'm driving. It's a VERY comfortable and lively bike, a real peach as soon as you open it up a bit, and I've never felt the bridle that some people talk about at 6,000, even if you'd think it'd be even better... in 2016 when the French bridle will go, as promised by Europe. Competition park in Neuchâtel is a very competent and friendly Triumph dealer just a stone's throw from my home. True to Triumph, the Trophy SE has all the qualities I expected. I waited for it to appear before adopting it immediately. 11,000km a few months later, I have no regrets, it's a pleasure to ride, in all its wide range of uses.

Kawasaki GTR 1400 very good bike but badly balanced, on the other hand Triumph Trophy SE perfect balancing very good road especially in mode Sport (there is what to have fun with), good has by that much resemblance with the BMW RT, but the Trophy must be unbridled to have real feeling and there in appreciate this MOTO Rating : 4/5

On the contrary, I find that it revs up superbly at low revs, and with quite a bit of pep. Much nicer than the RT 1200 (I had the impression that the engine was anemic, no feel, calf's milk). Rating : 5/5

Great bike, great engine with lots of torque, good character and very reasonable fuel consumption. The only drawback is the weight, but you get used to it. And incomparable comfort!
In short, a bike we'll always want to keep riding. We hope to keep it for as long as possible.

Excellent protection, top of the line
Cool options
Excellent radio quality
50 kg more than the RT 1200 BMW, enormous!
Center of gravity too high.
The engine has trouble starting up again at low revs, which for me is its biggest problem,
you have to juggle the gearbox!!!!

Well, I agree with Alban. I had a 900TDM for 4 years, and tried the R1200RT, flat engine, no feel, no better than the TDM.
The Trophy is super pleasant, easier to handle and, above all, more comfortable than the R1200RT. It's true that Triumph left me all afternoon, BM just 40 minutes!
I signed up for the Trophy, and hopefully I'll have it by the end of the week!
