presentation of the 1700 HAMMER 2011

in the Victory range, the Hammer is the representative of Muscle Cruisers, a category that's all about demonstrations of strength. With its upside-down forks and enormous 250 mm-wide gumshoe, this beast is designed for sporty customs enthusiasts. Not in the sense of a sporty R6 attack game, but rather a certain demand for conviction and muscular riding. Looks first, followed by the power developed by the big 1731 cm3 twin. Of course, one might be tempted to compare it to Harley's V-Rod family, the recent 1250 Muscle being a perfect illustration of the power-cruiser concept. Except that VRSC have opted for modern water-cooled mechanics; the Hammer renews its reliance on a classic, and superb, air-oil twin. With plenty of torque and 89 horsepower, the block has enough in the belly to engage playful driving, if not more. Dynamically, it's essential with this type of machine to have a certain authority at the handlebars. This is where the charm comes in, with the feeling of being in control of a machine that demands more attention and conviction than a run-of-the-mill roadster, you know, the kind of bike that chews up your work. The sporty front end is complemented by 2 x 300 mm brake discs backed up by 4-piston calipers, but no radial mounting as seen on Japanese bikes such as Suzuki's M 1800 R Intruder or the late Kawasaki VN 1600 Mean Streak. Don't forget to stop every now and then at a terrace to answer passers-by's admirations and/or questions. Because before being a muscular custom, the Hammer is a machine with a hell of a mouth.
