presentation of the Vanguard VT 2000 2024
X-Wedge arrived on the market with a small but very varied range: only 5 models but serious from the start: A Tourer, a cruiser, a sidecar, a spider and a Trike. Almost all powered by a 2-liter twin. Imposing, rewarding machines, cheerfully copied from Harley-Davidson productions.
Take this VT 2000 Vanguard. Just remove the Chinese manufacturer's badge to believe you are looking at a Milwaukee machine. Whether in the shape or the engine, the copy is almost impeccable. Except that for the engine, X-Wedge did not divert a Harley engine. It proved more practical to negotiate with S&S to restart production of one of its old big-blocks.
A big air-cooled twin, with a capacity of no less than 1976 cm3. At H-D, you have to tap into the CVOs to get that much displacement. X-Wedge produces 103 hp at 5,000 rpm from this engine, and a good rinse of torque. The big 108 mm bowls allow 16.1 mkg to show maximum fat at only 3,000 rpm.
With the VT 2000, China is not reinventing the concept; it is just making it its own with a more modern design trait (mainly for the fork head), a level of comfort seeking to settle at the same level, space for luggage with a trunk between the rear wheels + the top case; and a lot of equipment installed as standard.
From the driving position, a small attempt at a retro atmosphere is quickly ousted by a 7-inch color TFT screen. The on-board configuration reveals a Keyless system, traction control, cruise control, a USB port, full LED lighting, tire pressure monitoring, heated seats, Bluetooth connectivity, a JBL sound system, automatic rear cylinder shutdown to limit heat emissions, a front camera, reverse gear, a GPS navigator via app and mirroring, and triple-channel ABS.
With this Vanguard in its catalog, X-Wedge becomes (from the beginning of its existence) one of the rare motorcycle manufacturers in the world to produce a Trike. Only the Chinese will be able to benefit from it, with a machine that thinks it's American. Except for the price. Although the VT 2000 is the brand's most expensive beast, it costs three times less than the Tri Glide Ultra.
