Motorcycle specifications YamahaXVS 650 DRAGSTAR 2005 Beautiful tunes

Cruiser

with its handsome size, the 650 Dragstar could play with bigger machines. Enticing and eye-catching, the Yam is adorned with big mudguards, sparkles with lots of chrome, and is a real eye-catcher with its big fork and dummy clutch housing. With its big tank, integrated instrumentation and Softail-style chassis, it almost looks like a Fat Boy. Who knows... in any case, it's a beautiful custom. Its twin doesn't pull on arms for lack of torque, but it's quick to use and available without blushing at low revs. Transmission is by universal joint, with an essential quality: forgetfulness. There's no need to worry about the inconvenience of a chain, and it fades into the background as you drive. Not as heavy as it is big, the Dragstar remains maneuverable but not really comfortable. Sitting in a typically custom position, expect a few racket kicks in the back on rough roads. Yes, well, this isn't the GT you wanted to buy...

Hi everyone, I'm Greg, and I bought a 1997 DRAG 650 in very good condition, and it's a real pleasure to ride! The problem is that I've been looking on the net for 3 days for wider adaptable footrests (at Kuryakyn for example) but I can't find a single product that matches the 97 model. Does anyone have any tips or e-mail addresses for finding this part? Or do I have to take another 1998-style model and fiddle with it? Thanks in advance for your answers! Rating : 5/5

Hello, I bought a 650 dragstar, I sent my papers to the insurance company which told me that I had to have an A license for this bike or else I would have to provide them with a bridle certificate. However, I've already seen on several websites that there's no need to fit this bike, which is well under the A2 limit... Can you answer that? Rating : 5/5

I've had this beauty for 8 months and I used to love it. Mine is a 99. It's really classy, even when it's noisy. Honestly, every time I ride it, I feel a breath of freedom. And finally, its beauty quickly makes you forget its somewhat delicate comfort. But at the same time, this is a bike for bikers...the real thing! Rating : 5/5

i've just bought this '97 "mamie", ideal for Sunday bikers. 90 mph ride, good seat, although after an hour, a short stop is in order.Avoid wide footrests (they rub quickly) Keep an eye on the manual odometer (no fuel warning light) And gear problems (from first to neutral is often a problem: if anyone has a solution)..otherwise nothing to say, for cruising around with the missus, or on your own, there's nothing better, and then there's the little biker \'frime \' side (with the vintage aviation pilot's goggles on the jet...top of the line! Rating : 5/5
French Model 2005
Super pleasant to ride, you can feel the engine as if the bike was alive, responding to requests; I had a 1100 virago before, and it really feels like a bigger machine in your hands, heavier, but still easy to handle, perfect for cruising around, as if you were on an old bike Rating : 5/5
Excellent bike for a beginner in the world of custom, responsive contrary to what you might think, 0 to 100 in 6.25seconds, braking too tight, but you need to anticipate, especially when riding a duo.
Good bike for A2, for an A licence the model 1100 is preferable for better comfort in Duo and braking, very easy mechanical repair and maintenance, converting it into a bobber is very easy just dismantle the rear GB, no cutting of chassie.
It's 21 years old and bought at 20,000km, still at the top performance level, but pay attention to the condition of the intake pipes, which are made of rubber. Replacement is highly recommended, as is the oil filter gasket and the cardan shaft oil, which is often forgotten during servicing.

The 650 Drasgtar was designed long before the introduction of the A2 license. However, this license limits power to 47.5 hp - the Drasgtar's 40 hp should not pose any problems for a young license holder to drive it. Rating : 5/5

French Ilochok Model 1999
I've owned a '99 Drag for 1? years now. 75,000 km when I bought it, 78,000 now, and it rides like a charm.
It looks imposing, but handles like a bike, even at low speed.

The whole thing is very sturdy (the frame hasn't moved a bit following a big box), but good quality spare parts are hard to find in France, so prefer German or Italian dismantlers.
Don't hesitate to bring in "big" parts like complete engines from the USA, where there's a large supply (sold under the V-star name).

For customization, there are still a lot of parts available from specialist stores. There's less choice than for Harleys, but enough to make you happy.

Wear parts for classic maintenance have been fitted to many other bikes, and still are today. Everything is available at affordable prices. I plan to change the clutch next year at around 80,000km, which is a good sign.

Maintenance is easy to do, no surprises, no electronics, no awkward access. You can do almost everything yourself, and the complete garage manual can be found on the Internet (with all exploded views, diagrams, tightening torques...)

As for use, this is a motorcycle for pleasure. It's more than enough for a 90/100 speed ride on country roads. Avoid the freeway, as you're almost at full throttle at 130, and the wind torture will quickly become unbearable without a bubble.
Not very comfortable in urban environments, with a truckish turning radius. The width of the handlebars often prevents you from weaving in and out of traffic.
It's great for mountain riding (where I use it). There's plenty of torque, which is surprising for a 650, and comes in handy when you're going up steep, winding climbs, or when you need engine braking (the brakes are almost useless...so much the better, they're not very powerful). Beware of the limited ground clearance, especially with after-market footrests...it rubs very, very quickly. You get used to it and you modify your behavior quite quickly, the advantage being that it limits the risks in case of excessive optimism in curves or traffic circles.

As far as fuel consumption is concerned, I drive between 5.5 and 6 litres on mountain roads, with a very "cushy" driving style (several accidents have calmed me down)

I don't plan to change it, but if I have to change the engine, I'll do it, because it's so ideal (and carbureted!)
Of course, if someone offered me the 1100, I wouldn't say no....but today, with all the repression, is a big cube really useful?

1999 model bought used in 2007.
I had no use for a second bike. It doesn't go out very often and takes up a lot of space in the garage, but I wouldn't part with it for the world.
I live by the sea and I'm not at all careful, but it's aged very well.
I've only known since today that it's got 40 horsepower, which would have been incredible if I'd given it 55.
Super reliable, always starts at 1/4 turn. I often take the … 1200 GS, yet it never gives me a hard time….
The better it looks, the more it increases in value, or almost. What a pleasure and what a pleasure to have only 220 kg to ride.
Minuses: average braking, average passenger
Plus: everything else, including the gearbox, which slams a bit
Rating : 5/5
4.5 l/100 km, with passenger, if speeds of 30, 50, 70, 90km/h are respected on secondary roads...compared with 8, 15 l recorded on freeways at 130/135 on the odometer. I drive happily on the Cotentin departmental roads, with an impression of speed, a whole day without needing a petrol pump, with great acceleration to overtake the troublemakers thanks to the maximum torque at 3000 rpm and short gear ratios in the gearbox... Rating : 4/5

As far as I'm concerned, with just 16 liters, I've got a range of 250km with a passenger on small roads.

Hello,

Motorcycle instructor by trade, former BMW test rider, I've had a lot of motorcycles, sport bikes and roadsters, but never a custom.
At the age of 42, I took the plunge and found a used one for 1,600 euros and 50,000 kms.
I stripped it down to the bone and built it into a bobber, a single-seater: a jewel; everyone looks at it and loves it.
I won't set any lap times with this beak, but I ride with a smile on my face...
It's rock'n'roll with two homemade pots and a complete matte black paint job...

I recommend it, and you can see photos by googling: 650 dragstar vvs bobber; you can order the bobber kits directly from the U.S...

A very big downside to this enthusiasm ...

A good bike, yes, quite pretty, with a good engine that I managed to get down to 5 l/100 on a quiet ride ... and for good reason ...
I work in the press, and I use this bike for my reports. While it behaves normally on straight asphalt roads with no pavement defects, it's a real disaster on small country roads!
if the road is wet, with a bit of sideways movement, it's simply INPILOTABLE!
Taking a little angle with this bike? Not even a dream ...
In short, a nice-looking bike, with a nice torque, but roadholding to be completely reviewed (perhaps with a steering damper and very grippy tires...).
Not recommended for new riders with little experience who want to use this bike on anything other than country roads or city streets ...
I'm not even talking about the brakes ... a single, really average disc at the front, and a drum at the rear!

I'm going to sell this bike quickly, as it's unsuitable for my personal use

After years of riding big trail bikes (Suzuki 650 V Strom and Aprilia 1000 caponord), I switched to the 650 dragstar 2 months ago, and now ... it's bluffing!! what a pleasure and what an impression of freedom. it's the "no stress" bike. it's from 2002, has 26,000 km and is very well equipped (bubble, sissy bar, leather saddlebags, extra lights etc....). i've lost all desire to ride it at high speed because it's already blissful at 100 110 kmh. i think that's exactly what i was expecting from a motorcycle

I gave this bike to my eldest son, as soon as he got his license (so it's a 34 hp). It's the model with the narrow mudguards, and with the little leather saddlebags, windscreen, additional headlights and sissy bar, all from the Yamaha catalog, it's simply gorgeous. As a result, when my son wanted a new bike very soon afterwards, I kept it (and compensated him, of course). Today, it's one of my five bikes, not the one I use the most, but I still enjoy riding it, especially in town. It's got a nice little mill, it's a real bike, and it reminds me of my teenage years, when I saw the film Easy Rider. I think that's why I was so keen to get it back.

Very pleasant motorcycle, solid, economical and aesthetically superb. I'm still apprehensive about riding in the rain because the rear end slips a bit despite a new tire. I'm looking for a well-padded driver's seat because mine (mod 97 and 30000 kms) is torn and a bit flat
Bonne route à tous en dragstar

I just got my motorcycle license at 60( eh yes....!)I bought a Dragstar . No problem. I find the BV a bit noisy but I was told by Yamaha that this was normal. On the other hand, I've fitted a brand windscreen and I find the turbulence very unpleasant. If anyone has a solution, it would be most welcome. Thanks Rating : 5/5

i'm a 39-year-old woman, and I've just bought a dragstar 650 with my husband
It's a gem, the only problem is the kids (2 and 5), so we don't know how to go out together very often
My 5-year-old son loves going out on his motorcycle, so he'll probably be a future biker
We don't regret anything except the time to enjoy it a little more.

Hello everyone,

I've just taken delivery of my 650 Drag Star Yamaha, 6&demi, as the young purists say, at last

I'm 61 years old and have just passed my driving test. Before, to see, I "tried" a Honda 125 Shadow, very good on the flat, but a little short in the Pyrenees, which is what decided me to take the plunge

Since I've had it, I've been nothing but happy, with good acceleration, comfort and very reasonable fuel consumption and insurance. I'd like to thank Danzic on this site for helping me make the right choice

Bonne route à tous

Pierre

regis 40 years old, a dragstar for 5 years, completely rebuilt in my image, personal paint, saddle with blue flames, various chromes, in short it's been mistaken for an HD, its fault is the lack of power, since it's only a 650 xvs
i wouldn't change it for all the money in the world, my brother has a magnificent fat boy, i ride it regularly, it keeps me happy in the meantime
bonne route

owner of a drag star for 9 months and 3500 kms very good machine pleasant in town and on secondary roads much more malleable than it looks to me equipment side it misses a rev counter and the sissi bar should be of office side engine at very low rpm well proportion the gas if not in mid-range very good resumptions even in 5° very good machine to run at 110 120
very easy to handle, always a pleasure to ride

Hi everyone
I just got out of a Virago and jumped at the chance (as fate would have it). I'm picking up MY Dragstar on Monday lunchtime. After trying it, I had a hard time returning it to its owner. So I'm looking forward to Monday. Long live the custom spirit... and the biker spirit in general! A+

A great custom for cruising and city riding. The ride is pleasant and the position comfortable. Throttle response is just right, as you'd expect from a 650cc V-twin. The "Harley" look with all its chrome is a real eye-catcher. For driving at 110 Km/h and beyond, even over short distances, the windscreen is obviously indispensable. But why did the Yamaha windshield go from €190 to €350 between 2003 and 2004? Likewise the sissy-bar, from 195€ to 319.99€. Rating : 5/5

very nice bike, nice finish.comfortable for the rider but not at all for the passenger.my 650 dragstar is equipped with dragpipes (free exhaust),a bubble that becomes compulsory from 120 km/h.maintenance is top notch with the cardan shaft as transmission.fuel consumption is very good.top speed is 150 km/h and it's almost suicidal.the only fault I find with this bike is the footrests, which touch very easily when cornering.otherwise, I don't regret my purchase at all.best regards to all motorcyclists and please be careful. Beautiful machine, very comfortable (except for the passenger). The engine has a good temperament, ideal for having fun while riding cool). I have Marving Legend pots (what a sound). It's true that a windshield is not a luxury... Rating : 5/5

A real pleasure I'm 40 and I didn't want to lose my driving license points, so I ride custom. This nimble, low-slung bike is my daily companion in built-up areas, where it shines with chrome and catches the eye of onlookers with its curves. On the road, it's a pleasure to ride, as the riding position is "in an armchair", with feet forward and arms outstretched. In such a position, it's obvious that riding at over 120 km/h becomes physical (a windscreen is a welcome addition), and the bike's lack of power at higher revs tends to make it less enjoyable, but nothing catastrophic - it's just not made for it. It's a pretty, well-finished, clean and low-maintenance custom, with low-end torque that pulls you along briskly, and a smoothness that will delight you in town. Comfort is dry, but there's worse from the competition, and braking is in keeping with the spirit of the machine. Rating : 5/5
