Motorcycle specifications YamahaXVS 650 DRAGSTAR 2005 Beautiful tunes

with its handsome size, the 650 Dragstar could play with bigger machines. Enticing and eye-catching, the Yam is adorned with big mudguards, sparkles with lots of chrome, and is a real eye-catcher with its big fork and dummy clutch housing. With its big tank, integrated instrumentation and Softail-style chassis, it almost looks like a Fat Boy. Who knows... in any case, it's a beautiful custom. Its twin doesn't pull on arms for lack of torque, but it's quick to use and available without blushing at low revs. Transmission is by universal joint, with an essential quality: forgetfulness. There's no need to worry about the inconvenience of a chain, and it fades into the background as you drive. Not as heavy as it is big, the Dragstar remains maneuverable but not really comfortable. Sitting in a typically custom position, expect a few racket kicks in the back on rough roads. Yes, well, this isn't the GT you wanted to buy...

My big bike is a '98 XVS and I'm going to change my original handlebars for a 14" ape and I'd like to know what electric cables I need to buy to extend the basic ones?
Merci d'avance

I wanted to start my motorcycle which hasn't been running for 2 years. The problem is that it only idles with the choke and then if I turn up the throttle it stops dead
Can anyone help me solve this problem?
thank you

Good bike for A2, for an A licence the model 1100 is preferable for better comfort in Duo and braking, very easy mechanical repair and maintenance, converting it into a bobber is very easy just dismantle the rear GB, no cutting of chassie.
It's 21 years old and bought at 20,000km, still at the top performance level, but pay attention to the condition of the intake pipes, which are made of rubber. Replacement is highly recommended, as is the oil filter gasket and the cardan shaft oil, which is often forgotten during servicing.

Is it A2 compatible? Not easy to check with the new criteria
Thanks, have a good trip Rating : 4/5 Respond to Focalm

It looks imposing, but handles like a bike, even at low speed.
The whole thing is very sturdy (the frame hasn't moved a bit following a big box), but good quality spare parts are hard to find in France, so prefer German or Italian dismantlers.
Don't hesitate to bring in "big" parts like complete engines from the USA, where there's a large supply (sold under the V-star name).
For customization, there are still a lot of parts available from specialist stores. There's less choice than for Harleys, but enough to make you happy.
Wear parts for classic maintenance have been fitted to many other bikes, and still are today. Everything is available at affordable prices. I plan to change the clutch next year at around 80,000km, which is a good sign.
Maintenance is easy to do, no surprises, no electronics, no awkward access. You can do almost everything yourself, and the complete garage manual can be found on the Internet (with all exploded views, diagrams, tightening torques...)
As for use, this is a motorcycle for pleasure. It's more than enough for a 90/100 speed ride on country roads. Avoid the freeway, as you're almost at full throttle at 130, and the wind torture will quickly become unbearable without a bubble.
Not very comfortable in urban environments, with a truckish turning radius. The width of the handlebars often prevents you from weaving in and out of traffic.
It's great for mountain riding (where I use it). There's plenty of torque, which is surprising for a 650, and comes in handy when you're going up steep, winding climbs, or when you need engine braking (the brakes are almost useless...so much the better, they're not very powerful). Beware of the limited ground clearance, especially with after-market footrests...it rubs very, very quickly. You get used to it and you modify your behavior quite quickly, the advantage being that it limits the risks in case of excessive optimism in curves or traffic circles.
As far as fuel consumption is concerned, I drive between 5.5 and 6 litres on mountain roads, with a very "cushy" driving style (several accidents have calmed me down)
I don't plan to change it, but if I have to change the engine, I'll do it, because it's so ideal (and carbureted!)
Of course, if someone offered me the 1100, I wouldn't say no....but today, with all the repression, is a big cube really useful? Rating : 5/5 Respond to Ilochok
i have a problem with. The gearbox makes noise in 1 and 2 I think it's the forks or the nut but I don't know how to disassemble it

I just came across your post about the pot on the dragstar. For the 90â'¬, was it really noisy or did you come across a policeman allergic to bikers? Since then, have you changed pots, and if so, which ones did you use?
thank you

I had no use for a second bike. It doesn't go out very often and takes up a lot of space in the garage, but I wouldn't part with it for the world.
I live by the sea and I'm not at all careful, but it's aged very well.
I've only known since today that it's got 40 horsepower, which would have been incredible if I'd given it 55.
Super reliable, always starts at 1/4 turn. I often take the … 1200 GS, yet it never gives me a hard time….
The better it looks, the more it increases in value, or almost. What a pleasure and what a pleasure to have only 220 kg to ride.
Minuses: average braking, average passenger
Plus: everything else, including the gearbox, which slams a bit Rating : 5/5 Respond to pitlane
Forget the freeway with a Dragstar 650. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
Motorcycle instructor by trade, former BMW test rider, I've had a lot of motorcycles, sport bikes and roadsters, but never a custom.
At the age of 42, I took the plunge and found a used one for 1,600 euros and 50,000 kms.
I stripped it down to the bone and built it into a bobber, a single-seater: a jewel; everyone looks at it and loves it.
I won't set any lap times with this beak, but I ride with a smile on my face...
It's rock'n'roll with two homemade pots and a complete matte black paint job...
I recommend it, and you can see photos by googling: 650 dragstar vvs bobber; you can order the bobber kits directly from the U.S... Rating : 5/5 Respond to coum13
A good bike, yes, quite pretty, with a good engine that I managed to get down to 5 l/100 on a quiet ride ... and for good reason ...
I work in the press, and I use this bike for my reports. While it behaves normally on straight asphalt roads with no pavement defects, it's a real disaster on small country roads!
if the road is wet, with a bit of sideways movement, it's simply INPILOTABLE!
Taking a little angle with this bike? Not even a dream ...
In short, a nice-looking bike, with a nice torque, but roadholding to be completely reviewed (perhaps with a steering damper and very grippy tires...).
Not recommended for new riders with little experience who want to use this bike on anything other than country roads or city streets ...
I'm not even talking about the brakes ... a single, really average disc at the front, and a drum at the rear!
I'm going to sell this bike quickly, as it's unsuitable for my personal use

Maybe you should have had it adjusted...or used it like the other bloggers in this series of comments...

It's a gem, the only problem is the kids (2 and 5), so we don't know how to go out together very often
My 5-year-old son loves going out on his motorcycle, so he'll probably be a future biker
We don't regret anything except the time to enjoy it a little more. Rating : 5/5 Respond to chantal
I've just taken delivery of my 650 Drag Star Yamaha, 6&demi, as the young purists say, at last
I'm 61 years old and have just passed my driving test. Before, to see, I "tried" a Honda 125 Shadow, very good on the flat, but a little short in the Pyrenees, which is what decided me to take the plunge
Since I've had it, I've been nothing but happy, with good acceleration, comfort and very reasonable fuel consumption and insurance. I'd like to thank Danzic on this site for helping me make the right choice
Bonne route à tous
