presentation of the XT 125 R 2009
single-stroke trail bikes and Yamaha go back a long way. Following in the footsteps of the 125s, the manufacturer offers you 2 sauces for wandering through potholes: a 2-stroke engine with the DTR (a distant descendant of the famous DTMX), or a valve engine with this XTR, equipped with a 4-stroke single with perfectly square internal dimensions.
It's equipped with a catalytic converter and air induction system to keep it clean, cool styling to attract the public, and a much lower seat than the DTR to make it accessible (well, 860 mm high) to more people - Yamaha's thinking of the young!
And just as the big XTR has a supermotard sister, the X, so does the 125. This 125 R is backed up by an XTX version with 17" wheels and a larger front brake disc.

Very good chassis, despite the lack of brakes... a 2-piston rear and a 3-piston front would be great!
But beware: the rear brakes lock up quickly, as there's no ABS or coupled braking!
The bike's average fuel consumption is around 3 to 4.5 litres per 100 km
The Yamaha DTX is nothing like a "pleasure" bike, as I call it. This bike can be used for pleasant rides, unlike the DTX with its 2t noise that's not very pleasant in all ears..
The seat is pretty hard at first, but you get used to it..
Robust engine, but beware: regular maintenance every 6,000 km or every year.
VERY easy maintenance
- remove engine cover,
- unscrew the drain plug (dig or 17" wrench)
- change the gasket on the drain plug
- close the drain plug
- and finally top up with oil!
No more complicated than that! Rating : 4/5 Respond to Nozh_m
