presentation of the MT-03 2009

2 years. It took Yamaha just 2 years to turn the positive reactions to its 2003 Mondial de la Moto proto into reality. When presented as a concept car, the MT-03 astonished and excited many people. It was written that its destiny would be similar to that of the MT-01: born for a show, living among bikers.

Its fun, light design immediately expresses the pleasure of a quirky object. This kind of machine provokes the same kind of astonishment as the MT-01, but without the engine's mastoco side. That's when the first questions arise - what will the motorization deliver? The 01 benefits from a huge V-twin (from a big custom bike) and a lot of torque. The MT-03 has no right to mechanical extravagance. Its mill is the single-cylinder 660 of the XT-R and X, given here for 45 hp. We're all familiar with its playful side, but will it be enough? Less than 50 grunts isn't much.
YAMAHA 660 MT-03The MT-03 relies above all on its plasticity to seduce. And it's true that it looks good. From the headlight to the exhausts, there's no shortage of eye-catching parts. A subtly designed headlamp held in place by beautiful plates, a shock absorber placed on the side of the engine and attached to a swingarm with a very specific extension, rims with hyperrims, exhaust systems modelled on those of the MT-01, a not-very-large fuel tank and a double-decker seat - Yam's design department is working hard.
Public reaction was enthusiastic at the Paris show, and there's no reason for that to change now.

Moto "Fun" pour la ville
French ALAIN97133 Model 2013
After 15 years on a BMW 650 Scarver, I'm having a lot of fun on this 660cc gromono! The only downside is the exhaust heat on the left leg. Alas, Yamaha only built it from 2005 to 2015, and it's not on the streets :) Rating : 4/5

Hi, guys.

Thanks for your comment Alain, I thought it was only on mine that there was this concern of big heat on the left leg :D

Good bike for beginners, but think carefully about how you're going to use it. It can't handle long trips, and you won't be able to either, as the comfort on this bike is so spartan: seat as hard as wood, vibrations and exposure to the wind (as you'd expect from any roadster).
For short trips, on the other hand, it's top-notch, and great in town!

French Nexus763 Model 2013
This bike is a modern "character" motorcycle. Mono vibration, rigid frame, soft wood seat. Not for the faint-hearted.

It goes off at the drop of a hat (literally) and is a delight for cornering enthusiasts. It leans and twirls with suppleness and fluidity. On the other hand, long freeway journeys are no fun, with vibrations, wind in the face, and a bad back and buttocks. Nevertheless, I'm going to ride it again to the TT this year.

It's true that it lacks a little juice, but that's OK. It's my son's bike, so for starters it's more than enough.

Bonne continuation à vous

soichiro the Honda FMX boasts 37hp and protection that's at least as spartan, it's actually better to opt for this type of bike for the city given its very affordable price, but the MT03's design hinted at something more for the road. As far as I'm concerned, I've just sold my 2007 Suzuki DR, and for me, the supermotard concept is too limited in terms of use. So I'm hoping for more from this MT03. With 70hp and a windshield (and perhaps a slightly larger tank), young riders and quadra would surely snap it up. What's surprising is the huge gap between the MT01 and the MT03, so my question is: is there an MT02 on the way (750cc / 100hp) to fill the gap in the middle? Otherwise, as far as monos are concerned, I don't think the Honda is any more reliable than the Yamaha or Suzuki. Rating : 5/5
French Bonux Model 2006
The look is great (which isn't often the case among 600s, except maybe for Triumph's Street Triple), but paying 7000 Euros for a bike that can basically only be used in town is a bit of a joke. At 65/70HP, I'd buy it with my eyes shut, but this is effectively making something new out of something old, and yet I'm a big fan of mono. On a supermotard, I can understand that they only offer 40 horsepower, but on a road bike / cafe racer, I'm sorry, but I need more, otherwise I'd buy a scooter for the city. Yamaha should make an effort, the design is superb but not the motorization... Rating : 5/5
I went out to try this bike. I liked the fact that it handles well in mountain corners and has plenty of torque at low revs. I just found it a bit annoying that you couldn't fit panniers behind it

On the other hand, I quickly realized that it's not made for speeding. But does that really matter, given the current speed limits on the roads?

Much too expensive and fragile engine, I prefer hundred times my honda 650 fmx for the reliability of the engine and are price (4590 euros)!!!! Rating : 5/5
French mt3030
hello,

50000 km on my mt660 bought used with 7000 km in 2007

RAS engine, shock absorber hs at 25000 replace by an omc and just happiness
the detail that makes all the difference, reduce the gearbox output pinion by one tooth and you get back the smoothness of use that was lacking at low revs
i'm waiting for an equivalent return from a fmx!
bonne route ;)

Well, here are my impressions after 500kms on this machine
In town and on small country roads, it's pure pleasure. On the other hand, the freeway is clearly to be avoided for its lack of protection. The rev counter is completely illegible, and the instrumentation a little too spartan. (No fuel gauge).
Handling is excellent, and it's easy to get the hang of. The driving position is relatively comfortable, even for taller riders. But forget the duo. High-lying passengers and the brutality of the single do not mix well. Bends are guaranteed
One last fault: the rear mudguard is ineffective. Water comes back onto the passenger seat and drips onto the rider's side. Not great
In short, a good bike, very well finished and great fun, but the practical details are a little neglected. But after all, such an original model... comes at a high price!

exellente machine!!!!!!
on the other hand, it's clear that for road riding it's not the best, but as a fun bike, or in town, it's a joy, mono lovers, throw yourself on it, I already own a sr500 in café racer, and with the mt, I've already got 1300kms on mine, and I find everything I like in the bike, a good chassis, good brakes, a torquey engine (and with the character of the mono that takes turns) and a devastating aesthetic!
i'm going back for more!!!!

MT-03, ER-6, ou bandit 650 ?
French stef Model 2006
lack of power, too expensive and no carburetor gauge, too bad. I like it and I'm still hesitating between this, an er6 n and a bandit 650 ... What should I choose? Rating : 5/5
French PHM74 Model 2006
with 45hp and 175kg dry weight, it's a bit weak. It's a shame that manufacturers don't pay more attention to weight; with 35kg less, it could make up for it in agility. Rating : 5/5

stylish and cool, like its big sister MT-01 :-)
power is low compared to the Kawa ER6N
