presentation of the 900 Tracer GT 2020
Let's be honest, the previous 900 Tracer was perfectly capable of taking you on a trip. And a trip where you can have fun as soon as the road turns a little, or even a lot.
The main limitations, or shortcomings, were the hard saddle and the luggage available as accessories; semi-rigid panniers that weren't exactly top-notch for serenely setting off in other regions. The new 900 Tracer does better, but... there's still something missing to tip you over the horizon. And that's where the Tracer 900 GT comes into its own. Better equipped, more rewarding, more capable of high mileage, this long-distance crossover is tempting in more ways than one.
But don't jump to the obvious conclusion: this isn't a Tracer with a suitcase kit. Yamaha has gone much further, to make this a bike with more value and substance than that simple conclusion.
The GT is clearly more upmarket. And this is immediately apparent when you climb aboard, with the handsome TFT color display. It doesn't display any more information than the rich dual-screen display on the 900 Tracer std, but it sure looks good. It's controlled by a thumbwheel on the right-hand switchgear. Next, the suitcases. Matching the color of the bike, they have a capacity of 22 liters, but more importantly, they attach to the rear anchor points much more easily and elegantly than the optional bastard kit on the old Tracer. And if you've got FJR suitcases lying around in the garage, you can swap them to increase cargo capacity.
The
It comes from the MT-10. Controlled from the left-hand switch, it operates from 4th to 6th gear, within a speed range of 50 to 180 km/h. A touch of the brake, clutch or gas pedal and it deactivates.
Where the 900 Tracer GT scores another serious point is in the suspension department. The forks are now fully adjustable, and the rear shock absorber's preload adjustment has been moved to an easily accessible knob under the rider's seat. This means the bike can be better recalibrated when the crew or the mood changes.
The GT will then be able to benefit from all the evolutions that Yamaha has brought to the 900 Tracer classic, such as revisited protection, revised handlebars, refined styling and improved saddles. And all the qualities preserved from the old model, such as the sparkling 3-cylinder engine, 3 injection maps and 3-level traction control, 18-liter fuel tank for long stages, center stand and 12V socket.
With the 900 Tracer GT, Yamaha offers a very tempting tourer that's sure to have fun on demand. The equipment is both rich and rewarding, even if there are a few areas for improvement. All that's missing is a comfort seat and a larger bubble to put it over the top. On the other hand, the price will also be of a higher caliber, and this Tracer will no longer be as affordable as the basic version. We'd almost go so far as to say that this isn't the most important thing. Because the missions that this crossover-GT can accomplish are sure to attract more than just the curious.

And the first few laps are extremely reassuring. The handling is simply brilliant, making you feel like a super pilot. The easy-to-read digital speedometer is worth keeping an eye on, as it's more than easy to find yourself out of bounds on any road. The bike positions itself very easily, copes with uneven road surfaces at speeds... and brakes well in all circumstances
Comfort is good, as is the riding position. Cruise control, heated grips, adjustable bubble sufficient for speeds even in excess of the law, everything is there and more
But the best part is the engine. It's easy, picks up all the time, even in 6th gear, and after 6,000 rpm becomes very punchy. At most, you could say that at forbidden speeds (max) with a crosswind, it moves a little
The price is high, but it's hard to find fault with it... Rating : 5/5 Respond to PapyCola
in the Ardennes, it veers a lot and you can really send..
Very good QP ratio and with an arrow pot, it purrs superbly
Good choice
Rating : 5/5 Respond to Thibert
Good bike, with Arow pot it purrs and with the shifter it's a pleasure. Rating : 4/5 Respond to thibert
I bought the 2019 900 GT TRACER, which is top of the range, with a lively engine, long, light, easy to handle, and a position that's a little too far forward, despite the Yamaha comfort seat, which is still a little firm (but it's hard to compare with the comfort seat on the Pan) Rating : 5/5 Respond to FIFI
i added 1 Givi 48L topcase and Givi crankcase guards to protect this CP3.
2 shortcomings: rough gearbox and a jittery engine that grumbles and clatters at less than 4,000 rpm, lacking in smoothness. Beyond that, however, it's all good fun, but be careful with your license...
Excellent comfort for two, I've just come off a K1600 where my knees and hips ached. Nothing like that with the Tracer. Fuel consumption 4.6l/100 max. Incredible.
You try it and you'll adopt it...
Kind regards. Rating : 5/5 Respond to scala
Just the right amount of power and vibration at mid and high revs Rating : 1/5 Respond to Rico
For a tracer gt
A much smoother bike from the front, and very pleasant for my 64 years old
Heated grips abs regulator everything is new
A hell of a peach, even when broken in, up to 6,000 rpm
I can't even imagine going higher
Superb value for money Rating : 5/5 Respond to Emmanuel
So I wanted to know, as an owner of this Yamaha 900 Tracer GT, what you think of it in terms of daily use, over long distances, going on vacation, as a duo or solo, with all the luggage, top case, what you think?..
Comfort? Driving pleasure? sensations?
I think I'll go and try one out at Yamaha, but a 20-minute test ride isn't long enough to form an opinion on a motorcycle.
Best regards. Rating : 3/5 Respond to Chrischris
And above all the quality of these machines
(BMW is all smoke and mirrors)
I went to yam for a tracer GT
10000km in 6 months
A pleasure to drive, with a vivacity that can't be beaten
Mme even found it more comfortable than our 2 BMs
The only thing I don't like is the secondary chain 🤨 a belt would have been nice
Back to basics
A real biker's bike

then i tried the mt 09 tracer gt. still for me i really fell for it.
i just got out of a harley and got a gtr
i don't have any yam action.
for me, it's a good compromise. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
The suspension didn't seem mediocre on my short test drive, but I'll have to wait and see with the adjustments I make. Otherwise, there's still the adaptability that greatly improves things. Even with a possible extension for the suspensions, it's still very well priced Rating : 5/5 Respond to zoizo
