An almost flawless tool, the RSV4 only evolves in small steps. With such a missile, Aprilia doesn't want to take any risks, fine-tuning it delicately so that sports enthusiasts can fully benefit from its maturity and exceptional efficiency. In 2014, the Noale-based weapon will be enhanced by a few more horsepower and ABS.

the Italian V4 is the over-the-counter temptation of Superbikes. The sports bike is sublime in the Factory version; less noble yet almost irresistible in the R version. It's the latter that changes in 2014, closely following the evolutions made to the top-of-the-range edition. Bigger 1.5-liter fuel tank, finishing details, a wicked red slam - Let's leave these appetizers to the paddock entrance... We're more interested in understanding what the RSV4 has up its sleeve. The block was beginning to feel different from the competition's latest powder kegs, just shy of the 200 hp mark. A bit of work on the internal friction, intake and exhaust systems now enables the boiler to develop 184 horsepower. Torque also climbs, narrowly missing the 12 mkg mark. A ladleful of extra watts, and the chassis will do the rest to keep up with the best.
43 mm upside-down forks and Sachs shock absorbers, aluminum perimeter frame, beefy swingarm: all unchanged (which is not at all detrimental). What changes is the position of the engine in the frame and the anchoring of the swingarm. This gives greater stability under heavy braking. Brembo M430 monobloc brakes and Bosch 9MP ABS calm the RSV4-R.

more velocity... So the electronic package has to be adapted. An area in which Aprilia is abundantly equipped. Traction control can now be adjusted without cutting the throttle. AWC, aka anti-wheeling, has been revised. The entire APRC package benefits from the latest lessons learned in competition, via a software update. It should also be noted that the seat height has been lowered slightly, to 840 mm, that the brakes have also been fitted with a new radial master cylinder, and that the rear tire is now 200 mm wide.

- ATC: traction control, adjustable to 8 positions, manages torque and optimizes traction. The RSV4's system is so advanced that it can be taught to act according to the tire used. The bike will react differently depending on the rubber you put on its shoes.
- AWC: anti-wheeling. Also adjustable, it allows you to make the most of the available acceleration without wasting energy on antics.
- ALC: start-up assistance for rocket-like take-offs. You put the throttle wide open, and when you're at the top, all you have to do is release the clutch and the bike will manage the optimum acceleration all by itself. Here too, there are 3 possible settings.
- AQS: Aprilia's shifter, which lets you shift gears with a flick of the boot, without releasing the right-hand grip or touching the clutch.

It weighs just two kilos, is disengageable, and adjustable on 3 levels:

- Track: optimized for track use. It acts on both wheels and works to obtain the best possible performance.
- Sport: anti-lock braking acts more progressively, combining front and rear braking.
- Rain: more intrusive, set for low-grip conditions.
