presentation of the RX 125 2021
In the Aprilia 125 family, I ask for the enduro. For off-road cruising? No, to look good off-road. Within the range, the RX 125 has not abandoned its beautiful silhouette, inspired by more discerning models.
The RX exudes the sporting emotion that Aprilia knows how to convey. Once off the radar, it has reappeared with different pretensions, but still with the same aplomb.
Euro5 required a few modifications on board. But the biggest shock came in 2018, when the engine switched from 2-stroke to 4-stroke. The renewed single-cylinder mill comes directly from the RS and Tuono 125. ECU, combustion chamber, iridium spark plug, air filter, ACT, intake and exhaust have all been redesigned to breathe cleaner, round out the torque curve and lower the revs at which maximum power is delivered.
In the 1/8th-litre clan, the Noale-based company likes to consanguinate. The Tuono and RS 125 share the same base. The case is very similar for the small trails, but it's striking to the eye. The RX is immediately recognizable by its studded tires and larger front wheel. A less muscular brake disc, a wider sprocket (69 teeth versus 62 on the SX), thinner tires, and that's it. But that's enough to get the mud out of the way. The rest of the bike is identical.
A steel frame, long suspension travel, 41 mm upside-down forks, fifteen or so horsepower, and refinement on the braking side. The RX gains ABS, in a more advanced version than the classic anti-lock braking system. A little nip from the big brothers at the heart of Superbike, and now the "off-roadeuse" is equipped with an anti-lift function for the rear wheel. The result is greater braking control.
On another front, an optional USB port can be added under the seat.
The RX wants to make its mark in its segment. With a concept of demands clearly aimed at young people. However, don't try to provoke an EXC or WR with it, or you'll be sticking your tongue out at every restart. Aprilia plays elsewhere, where passion and Italian style prevail over watts.
