presentation of the R 1200 C Montauk 2005
Don't look in BMW's history; Montauk isn't a rider's name, but that of a small American town in New York state, famous on the other side of the Atlantic for its lighthouse. A newcomer to the BM cruiser range, it sits between the standard R 1200 and the oversized R 1200 CL. The chassis and dashboard are those of the CL, minus the saddlebags and forkhead, while the silhouette copies that of the C, with the original addition of a small headlight. The newcomer is an entirely separate design, with a redesigned front end, new seat and new side covers. It's a purist cruiser, with no fairing, just a beautiful transparent windscreen. A motorcycle that, thanks to its outstanding road-holding qualities, is sure to provide a great deal of pleasure, while meeting the highest safety and environmental standards. The gearbox has been slightly reworked, and the 1170 cm³ boxer engine has been equipped with the dual ignition already familiar from other boxer models. Combustion is improved, resulting in lower pollutant emissions and fuel consumption, as well as improved smoothness. Engine power and torque - 61 hp and 98 Nm at 3,000 rpm - remain unchanged.

Like all BMW motorcycles, the Montauk comes with a hefty price tag, in keeping with its exemplary finish and comfort. A bike for cruising the California coastline.

but: various problems like ABS dead at 15000 mk, chromes blistering everywhere (all taken in warranty at that time!) and then the starter failed too; today I'm broken down again with the ABS WHICH HAS TO BE CHANGED AGAIN!
It's a car that doesn't drive well enough!
but i'll have a hard time reselling it because i'm so fond of it despite all its whims!!! bonne route a tous ; Rating : 3/5 Respond to papillon
It has 60000 now. Only downside, me too, ABS box to be changed at 50,000 km. 2500 â'¬. Well, we're surviving because: exemplary roadholding, integral ABS braking with hydraulic assistance. Fantastic. Now in mid-2018, nothing will make me part with it. Rating : 4/5 Participate in the conversation
