presentation of the R 1200 C Montauk 2004

Don't look in BMW's history; Montauk isn't a rider's name, but that of a small American town in New York state, famous on the other side of the Atlantic for its lighthouse. A newcomer to the BM cruiser range, it sits between the standard R 1200 and the oversized R 1200 CL. The chassis and dashboard are those of the CL, minus the saddlebags and forkhead, while the silhouette copies that of the C, with the original addition of a small headlight. The newcomer is an entirely separate design, with a redesigned front end, new seat and new side covers. It's a purist cruiser, with no fairing, just a beautiful transparent windscreen. A motorcycle that, thanks to its outstanding road-holding qualities, is sure to provide a great deal of pleasure, while meeting the highest safety and environmental standards. The gearbox has been slightly reworked, and the 1170 cm³ boxer engine has been equipped with the dual ignition already familiar from other boxer models. Combustion is improved, resulting in lower pollutant emissions and fuel consumption, as well as improved smoothness. Engine power and torque - 61 hp and 98 Nm at 3,000 rpm - remain unchanged.

BMW R 1200 C Montauk as on the CL, the front tire is a 150 wide, ideal for showing off, but not exactly cheerful for handling or liveliness in corners. For rear suspension, the new bike uses a combined spring/shock absorber with travel-dependent damping - an innovation used on the R 1200 CL, among others. A feature of travel-dependent damping is that damping becomes progressively harder as compression and rebound increase. As with the basic Cruisers, total travel is 100 mm.
Like all BMW motorcycles, the Montauk comes with a hefty price tag, in keeping with its exemplary finish and comfort. A bike for cruising the California coastline.

French Model 2004
i have a 2004 1200 c montauk with 30,000 km it's too nice my titine ( black color and chrome pack ) with almost all the options
but: various problems like ABS dead at 15000 mk, chromes blistering everywhere (all taken in warranty at that time!) and then the starter failed too; today I'm broken down again with the ABS WHICH HAS TO BE CHANGED AGAIN!
It's a car that doesn't drive well enough!
but i'll have a hard time reselling it because i'm so fond of it despite all its whims!!! bonne route a tous ;

Bought new in 2005 when production had already stopped.
It has 60000 now. Only downside, me too, ABS box to be changed at 50,000 km. 2500 â'¬. Well, we're surviving because: exemplary roadholding, integral ABS braking with hydraulic assistance. Fantastic. Now in mid-2018, nothing will make me part with it.

Honestly beautiful and racy. as a daily user, I have nothing but admiration. The only notorious fault that stands out from the manufacturer's image is the very poor quality of the chrome, which can oxidize or peel. It's a real catastrophe, despite the replacement parts, and it happens again and again (it's a real pain!) Rating : 5/5
French taxi84 Model 2005
indeed, it's a joy to behold, even a slight edge and a big hint of pride... it farts like hell, it moves well and REMUS makes an exhaust system for the montauk with a great sound... too bad that the construction of this machine will stop this year... well, it doesn't matter, it'll be a collector's item... Rating : 5/5
French stephetien Model 2005
what envy I arouse at its handlebars even stealing the show from my buddy at the v rod aesthetic behavior I love it is blue in my opinion the best color reliability fuel economy abs braking at the top rarity of the machine finally only happiness thank you who Rating : 5/5
