presentation of the R 1150 RS 2001

fallen into oblivion by the deserved success of its R 1100/1150RT cousin, the R 1100 RS returns in an 1150 version to remind us of serene BM travel. The RS series was the first to benefit from Paralever, Telelever and the new 4-valve Boxer. It's only right that Münich should now bring it its latest improvements. Displacement has risen to 1130 cc - + 5 bhp and 0.3 mkg - and the lower fairing, previously an option, is now standard, along with a sixth gear, new EVO brakes, hydraulic clutch and rear wheel downsizing from 18" to 17". The dashboard is perfectly legible, very complete, but deadly dull. When it comes to practical aspects, BM is still unbeatable: the bubble is height-adjustable via a knob above the dashboard (which lacks a little shoulder protection), there's another knob at the rear to adjust the shock absorber, and the seat can be adjusted to 3 different heights... The BM adapts to the rider both ergonomically and dynamically. Extremely comfortable on all types of road, it also offers great stability and ease of handling in tight bends, provided you know how to handle a big bike - and a BMW at that, as the front end and typical braking demand a certain amount of familiarity - which is quickly acquired. The flat twin offers power and linearity, but suffers from an overly muffled character. Sixth gear is an undeniable benefit on fast roads, but not on winding country lanes.

BMW R 1150 RSRolling on the torque can only be envisaged with temerity if you're bringing along a duo and luggage. It's better to shift down a gear to take advantage of the RS's efficient acceleration, faultless chassis and serene ride. Your passenger will be well looked after, with a wide, comfortable seat and a well-designed grab bar... and will bemoan your engine's jerky ride. Okay, it's not your fault, the mapping or the lambda sensor are a bit temperamental; but go and explain it to him...! These hiccups and vibrations at high speed aside, the R 1150 RS is an outstanding tourer, comfortable and fun to ride. The price is BM, but €3200 less than its noble RT cousin.

French rococo84 Model 2005
I had the pleasure of owning a year 2000 model
and I went through the R1100 of 1995 used then 1200RT NEW 1200 GS 2012 used and back to the 1200RT 2013.
I'm a "Bmiste" through and through, and I have excellent memories of my 1100RS, which is the most versatile of all BMs, with comfort equal to that of the 1200RT, and playful like an S, which I like a lot more, but not for two-up riding.
I think BM is the best manufacturer today.

At a time when the all-new R1200ST is showing its UFO nose, it's a good time to remember all the good things we can say about this R1150RS, which was destined for retirement. Not an early retirement, since the machine held its place for 12 years, no less, and underwent no less than a paucity of modifications: proof that it was well born.Riding it is an experience that requires you to go beyond the first moments of bewilderment to get to grips with it: its logic is not bluster but efficiency, the proof that 95 small hp combined with an outstanding chassis are enough to make you swallow hundreds of kilometers at an unavowable pace, without fatigue or fright...few machines are capable of this. It's no coincidence that this bike has been a hit in the rest of the world... Rating : 5/5

It's hard not to stray too far from legality. It pushes to speed and loves to corner: if it tightens up, you push a little inside and it goes through at ease. Beware, violent brakes. In an emergency, hesitate to pull hard for fear of going overboard! Still, it's hard to spend the whole day leaning on your wrists with your legs bent. Sport: yes, touring: yes, but GT: no. Fuel consumption 5-5.5l/100. Rating : 5/5
