Motorcycle specifications BMWR 1150 RT 2004 Roads of excellence

The R 1100 RT was undoubtedly one of BMW's most prodigious road bikes. The 1150, which replaces it, sets the benchmark for the general disgust of its rivals. Only the mudguard and headlamp (now double with integrated fog lamps) have changed, but the new face gives the BM more presence and confidence. A few changes to the seat, which is still height-adjustable, and a new braking system that's highly effective but requires some learning to use. Where the German model has made great strides is in the engine department. The Boxer gains 45 cm3, 5 hp, 0.5 mkg, as well as an additional gear (overdrive type) for the gearbox. This 6th gear lowers revs on the freeway, while preserving mechanical efficiency and fuel consumption.
With its new 1150 twin, the RT improves on all its predecessor's lap times. - Particularly the latest version with dual ignition: you can feel the flatness and the engine is smoother.
The gearbox is also less stiff, but there are still some untimely neutral shifts (user opinion).
The protection offered is royal, and the saddlebags (standard) very well integrated. Of course, all this comes at a price, especially as Bavarian machines have never been cheap. But the 16,000 euros it represents is a sound investment.

Robust mechanics, proven reliability!
Negative points: the electric brakes only kick in once you've switched on the ignition, and then only after you've driven a few metres, so you have to be careful when manoeuvring from a standstill.
The gearbox is a little temperamental.
Coupled braking requires a firm hand to avoid being caught out, especially at slow speeds.
The front brake master cylinder lacks progressiveness.
And that's it!
All in all, a very good machine! Ideal for breaking the spirits of sporty riders! ðŸ˜âœŒ

It's true that it's high, heavy and brakes hard. However, despite being 1m70 tall, I manage very well with my rangers. As for braking, I've learned to brake with one finger. As for the weight, you only feel it at low speed. In short, it's demanding, but that's part of its charm. 118,000 kms with no worries, apart from a weak starter which I changed. I'm looking for a trick to change the rear light bulb on my 2002 1150 RT ..... without removing the luggage rack or part of the rear trim. Is this possible?
Thanks Rating : 4/5 Respond to Tintin1964
remove the passenger seat
empty what's in the backrest (tool kit) and you'll find two plastic nuts which you unscrew and then you can remove the whole rear light unit
it's as simple as that Rating : 4/5 Participate in the conversation
-the rear light bulb
-brake pad wear problem
-a faulty battery
brake fluid
or the brake control unit
or pump
si vous avez des infos merci d'avance

the 1150 are characterized by a total lack of reliability of the central assistance / ABS
my r1150rt is from 2002 bought first hand in but 2014
a central ABS under warranty, another by the previous owner around 20000km and then my turn
i decided not to pay 2500 euros for the replacement
i switched back to conventional braking (no more ABS or assistance)
a master cylinder, hoses, a classic caliper and it brakes very well
many 1150 rt owners have done this
forum :bmistforumpro or on youtube
as of 2006 (R1200RT), brake assist was removed, proving to BMW that it was unreliable Rating : 4/5 Participate in the conversation
I just bought an 1150 RT. The front suspension is very hard
I can't find a drain plug at the bottom of the tubes either
What can I do?
Thanks for any help

You have a shock absorber between the fork tubes and it must be set to maximum hardness. The fork oil is only used for braking, not for damping
this is the principle of telelever

Especially the latest version with dual ignition, the flat feels better and the engine is smoother
The gearbox is also less stiff, but there are still the untimely neutral shifts
I wasn't a BM fan after using the K75, but I have to admit that this is a great toy. I only dream of one thing, a K1200S - I haven't tried it, but it's great! Rating : 5/5 Respond to nikkos83

Well shod (Metz6 ,please);good brakes (ABS);torquey engine;good protection (heated grips/electric bubble/ fairing...); and 125 agility! All this on a cushion of air (You don't feel like you're going fast:and 3 points less on your license the first month 3!)With a minimum of equipment ,you feel ready for a round-the-world trip!!!
Its supposed faults are not: the gearbox doesn't "klonk" if you know how to use it! Its supposedly overpowering brakes took me barely 10 km to get used to!!! I've been driving mine for 14 months=zero faults!!! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Pascal06
