Motorcycle specifications BMWR 1150 RT 2004 Roads of excellence

Touring

The R 1100 RT was undoubtedly one of BMW's most prodigious road bikes. The 1150, which replaces it, sets the benchmark for the general disgust of its rivals. Only the mudguard and headlamp (now double with integrated fog lamps) have changed, but the new face gives the BM more presence and confidence. A few changes to the seat, which is still height-adjustable, and a new braking system that's highly effective but requires some learning to use. Where the German model has made great strides is in the engine department. The Boxer gains 45 cm3, 5 hp, 0.5 mkg, as well as an additional gear (overdrive type) for the gearbox. This 6th gear lowers revs on the freeway, while preserving mechanical efficiency and fuel consumption.

With its new 1150 twin, the RT improves on all its predecessor's lap times. - Particularly the latest version with dual ignition: you can feel the flatness and the engine is smoother.
The gearbox is also less stiff, but there are still some untimely neutral shifts (user opinion).
The protection offered is royal, and the saddlebags (standard) very well integrated. Of course, all this comes at a price, especially as Bavarian machines have never been cheap. But the 16,000 euros it represents is a sound investment.

Excellent cycle part, forgives all (or almost all) your excesses of optimism. Great capacity for improvisation. Good ground clearance for a tourer of this size.
Robust mechanics, proven reliability!
Negative points: the electric brakes only kick in once you've switched on the ignition, and then only after you've driven a few metres, so you have to be careful when manoeuvring from a standstill.
The gearbox is a little temperamental.
Coupled braking requires a firm hand to avoid being caught out, especially at slow speeds.
The front brake master cylinder lacks progressiveness.
And that's it!
All in all, a very good machine! Ideal for breaking the spirits of sporty riders! ðŸ˜âœŒ

I have a 2001 model to take me to work
It's true that it's high, heavy and brakes hard. However, despite being 1m70 tall, I manage very well with my rangers. As for braking, I've learned to brake with one finger. As for the weight, you only feel it at low speed. In short, it's demanding, but that's part of its charm. 118,000 kms with no worries, apart from a weak starter which I changed.

50000 km with bought new excellent bike except for sensor problems impossible to solve while on holiday at the dealerships meant immobilizing the machine for several days or even half a week
day or a week and a half.
problem after first overhaul it started to rattle, according to the con ss bx use outside the authorized speeds. i sold it very quickly despite great pleasure on all roads
all this as a good BMIST with 300000 km on series 6 and series 7

Hello,
I'm looking for a trick to change the rear light bulb on my 2002 1150 RT ..... without removing the luggage rack or part of the rear trim. Is this possible?
Thanks

hello
remove the passenger seat
empty what's in the backrest (tool kit) and you'll find two plastic nuts which you unscrew and then you can remove the whole rear light unit
it's as simple as that

i'm having a small problem with the ABS the bike still brakes but the lights stay on i'd like to know if you have any information. it seems that the problem may come from either
-the rear light bulb
-brake pad wear problem
-a faulty battery
brake fluid
or the brake control unit
or pump
si vous avez des infos merci d'avance

hello
the 1150 are characterized by a total lack of reliability of the central assistance / ABS
my r1150rt is from 2002 bought first hand in but 2014
a central ABS under warranty, another by the previous owner around 20000km and then my turn
i decided not to pay 2500 euros for the replacement
i switched back to conventional braking (no more ABS or assistance)
a master cylinder, hoses, a classic caliper and it brakes very well
many 1150 rt owners have done this
forum :bmistforumpro or on youtube
as of 2006 (R1200RT), brake assist was removed, proving to BMW that it was unreliable

My 1150 Rt is 90000 and 11 years old, and I haven't had any braking incidents yet, but I've been worried ever since I read the testimonials on this subject. If my Central ABS is out of order, do dealers agree to remove the ABS system and switch to conventional braking? If you have an answer to share, thank you and have a good trip. Rating : 4/5

I had the same problem, 1.73m and my toes were dancing when I stopped. The solution: an 1100RT saddle: they are smaller and it's no problem to install them without any modifications, and now I can stand much better Rating : 4/5

Hello,
You have a shock absorber between the fork tubes and it must be set to maximum hardness. The fork oil is only used for braking, not for damping

this is the principle of telelever

Hello everyone and happy new year 2012, akim, I'd like to tell you a little about the r 1150 rt, I must say I think it's very beautiful despite the fact that it's not the only motorcycle in the world, I own one myself and I love its beauty and reliability in every sense and especially the balance, thank you. An exceptional motorcycle. Pure pleasure, no matter how hard I look, it's almost flawless. The only thing I can perhaps find fault with is the optics, which are a little weak for a bike of its size. On the bike side, it's nirvana. On the other hand, BMW's service is catastrophic. Overpriced service bordering on swindling. It's impossible to get the slightest bit of technical help without paying the full price. The garages are generally disconcertingly arrogant, and after a year or so will often tell you that it would be a good idea to buy the latest model. All in all, they're a bunch of bastards.... sitting comfortably on the monopoly conferred on them by the brand. Fortunately, there are brand mechanics who are willing to do a discreetly good job. Fortunately, there are still motorcycle lovers out there who don't have a cash drawer for a brain. So mechanically the dream, for the rest the brand is to be proscribed as a matter of urgency, or else have a large purse. Rating : 5/5

My 16th BMW is an 1150RT. great bike, like all the other bmws. my only complaint is that the gear spacing is too wide between 5th and 6th gears, which is a shame... otherwise nikel chrome, even better handling than the 1100. A+ Rating : 5/5
An exceptional bike. I wasn't attracted to this kind of machine. Let's just say that I'm quite "Japanese" when it comes to two-wheelers. I went to a dealer and he offered me a test ride. 40 kms later, I signed the order form, and the beauty joined the 4 Japanese bikes (including a Hayabusa) already in my garage. I can't find anything but good things about her: an unrivalled feeling of safety thanks to her unrivalled braking and roadholding, equipment (provided you pay full price for the options), a finish and construction above reproach, and above all the impression of being able to go to the ends of the earth with her, so comfortable and homogeneous is she. But for pure pleasure...the Hayabusa is still my best bike. Rating : 5/5

i use it every day and it's true that it's a great bike
Especially the latest version with dual ignition, the flat feels better and the engine is smoother
The gearbox is also less stiff, but there are still the untimely neutral shifts
I wasn't a BM fan after using the K75, but I have to admit that this is a great toy. I only dream of one thing, a K1200S - I haven't tried it, but it's great!

I completely agree with Harold about this machine, as far as the rider's height is concerned, I'm 1.67 m tall and there's no problem with the optional low seat, I'm not flat-footed but I'm not on my toes either, and you don't even have to be strong, it goes on the center stand "all by itself" (magic lift handle!) and I find it easier to handle in town....) and I find it easier to handle in town than my old Fazer 600, although I have to be careful with the braking at very low speeds. Otherwise, the average fuel consumption is 6 litres between town and highway at a good speed... Rating : 5/5

It's been 30 years since I last rode a motorcycle, and I've decided to get back into it, I opted for this bike, the first few kms a little stressed, but very quickly you feel at ease, there has been a lot of criticism on the braking too strong, I no problem! a small hiccup, I noticed that the 1st has trouble retracting at times, but otherwise nothing to complain about!
best regards to all

i live in corsica and with my r1150 rt i've covered 20,000 kms in 1 year, mostly on small roads and national roads. it lacks acceleration and downforce, but even sport bikes don't overtake on mountain roads. the 1200 rt is no match for it Rating : 5/5
French Model 2004
It's a very healthy bike that makes life easier for its rider [and passenger, too!
Well shod (Metz6 ,please);good brakes (ABS);torquey engine;good protection (heated grips/electric bubble/ fairing...); and 125 agility! All this on a cushion of air (You don't feel like you're going fast:and 3 points less on your license the first month 3!)With a minimum of equipment ,you feel ready for a round-the-world trip!!!
Its supposed faults are not: the gearbox doesn't "klonk" if you know how to use it! Its supposedly overpowering brakes took me barely 10 km to get used to!!! I've been driving mine for 14 months=zero faults!!!

Certainly one of the best machines on the market. I've been the proud owner of an R1150RT for 13 months and 42,000 km, and I can't get enough of it. The passenger is also treated like a princess. In winter, it's great to be able to ride with summer gloves without suffering from the cold; this fairing is brilliant. On the downside, the gearbox is like only BMW can make them: slow, with false neutral, and requiring a fairly muscular left foot. The footrests could be a little lower, or better still, adjustable like the seat. With a little extra torque, it would be ideal, but the R1200RT is here to take over. A serious study, except that I'm not yet hooked on the design Rating : 5/5

I love this machine. I wanted to buy one this spring 2005, but with the release of the 1200 RT, which has absolutely nothing to do with its sister, I'm going to have to wait a bit because, inevitably, the 1150 is going to suffer a discount. I'm back to calculating...damn! Rating : 5/5
