bMW's grand touring range is available in a number of dimensions: excess and luxurious comfort with the K 1200 LT, or the ideal synthesis of dynamic qualities and comfort with the R 1 100 RT - and its little sister the 850. A smaller displacement translates into 15 hp less, but also a 2,000-euro difference. The loss of power is offset by a shorter final gear. Fuel injection makes the flat twin smooth and supple. Available from 2,000 rpm without knocking, it expresses itself with gusto above 5,000 rpm. However, slight vibrations are felt in the footrests and increase as the rev counter needle rises - a gene not experienced by the 1,100. But when it comes to riding, there's nothing to complain about: this is a BM. With its Paralever front axle, the machine doesn't dive under braking. With its well-balanced chassis and suspension set-up, the 850 takes the worst of road deformations in its stride. Driving a GT doesn't just mean carving up the road, it also means having fun rolling and winding, an area where RTs are imperial. Fun and comfortable, the R 850 RT is like a bourgeoise with a bit of fun in it.

I’ve owned this motorcycle since 2000. I completely agree with Aldi’s comments. It’s a great bike for touring with its large saddlebags. This 85 RT gets very decent gas mileage and feels safe to ride. Mine has 24,000 km on the odometer, and I’m selling it because I’m not so young anymore. Best of luck to everyone. As pleasant to ride as a running bike, it's nevertheless a little heavy when stationary. A few comments on my BM, very good bike, good solo and duo comfort, good road holding, good braking, low fuel consumption, good fairing protection, very practical luggage, easy to handle on the road but too heavy 280 kg when stopped and manoeuvring, beware of crashing, gearbox a bit rough, it's a BM!
