presentation of the Path 22 2015

At Wheels & Waves 2015, BMW Motorrad unveiled its interpretation of a Scrambler to the world public: the BMW Concept Path 22.

cooperation with Southsiders MC, Ornamental Conifer and Dyer Brand.

The BMW Concept Path 22 is the fruit of a cooperation that goes far beyond motorcycles. On the initiative of the organizers of Wheels & Waves, the "Southsiders MC" motorcycle club, and above all its member Vincent Prat, BMW Motorrad invited the artist "Ornamental Conifer" and the surfboard manufacturer "Dyer Brand" to join forces with the manufacturer to give shape to the BMW Concept Path 22.

the motorcycle - an expression of freedom.

"The BMW Concept Path 22 stands for freedom - freedom of thought, and freedom of expression. What pleases is allowed, just like at Wheels & Waves. The Concept Path 22 is based on the BMW R nineT, which for us is the epitome of a custom motorcycle. You can and should modify and personalize it as you wish. That's why the idea of a Scrambler is not new to us. And we thought the time was right to present our interpretation of this legendary motorcycle concept," says Ola Stenegard, Head of Motorcycle Design at BMW Motorrad. Typical of BMW, a powerful flat-twin engine and cardan drive are at the heart of the BMW Concept Path 22. The single-sided swingarm gives a clear view of the five-spoke rear wheel, as is typical of BMW. The rest of the bike is equally bare. The classic round headlamp, tank and short seat give the bike understated proportions, a sign of agility. Optically speaking, the cladding ends above the rear wheel hub, promising playful handling. Typical Scrambler features such as knobby tires, a larger front wheel, slightly increased wheel travel and a high exhaust allow the bike to move effortlessly over gravel or sand. At the same time, these features give the BMW Concept Path 22 a distinctive look that at first glance suggests the kind of adventures it's capable of.

riding pleasure in its primitive form.

The BWM Concept Path 22 reveals maximum minimalism. Every shape, every surface has a function. That said, every detail is an expression of both high aesthetics and mastery of the art of craftsmanship. In addition to rustic elements such as the gussets on the front fork or the headlight protection grille, high-end details such as the stitched leather saddle, the leather-covered grips or the stainless steel exhaust tips in typical Scrambler Akrapovi? style add exclusive touches. High-performance components from Öhlins and Gilles Tooling, refined technical solutions from MotoGadget, such as turn signals integrated into the handlebar ends and instrument cluster, and milled parts in contrasting colors from Roland Sands Design underline the high quality in every detail. The milled aluminum wheels in contrasting colors are one-of-a-kind pieces made exclusively by BMW Motorrad, adding a prestigious touch to the minimalist look. All the parts in this study are the essential essence of this minimalist design, while offering the highest possible quality. The BMW Concept Path 22 thus perfects the art of reduction and returns to the primitive origins of motorcycling: the union between man and machine.

riding the Waves - boards by Dyer Brand.

The surfboard holder on the right-hand side of the BMW Concept Path 22 will not go unnoticed. Specially developed by BMW Motorrad, it too is reduced to the essentials, as functional and refined as the bike itself. Made exclusively from aluminum profiles and leather, it's highly modular, adapting to different board sizes. When it's not needed, it folds into the bike's silhouette or disassembles in a jiffy. As for the boards to which it is adapted, Mason Dyer himself, the brilliant shaper from Dyer Brand in San Diego, makes them. He's renowned for his high-quality custom boards inspired by the 1950s and 1960s. Exclusively for the BMW Concept Path 22, he has created two custom boards: a longboard (9'4), reminiscent of the birth era of the Scrambler, and a shortboard (6'8) meeting the demands of modern surfers.

an expression of joie de vivre.

The first Scramblers of the 1950s were modified road bikes, adapted for off-road riding with studded tires, increased travel and high exhaust. The result was a distinctive look that became the expression of a state of mind. "Nothing goes better with Wheels & Waves than a Scrambler. A Scrambler is the epitome of the motorcycle that escapes established norms and conventions. It's not the performance that counts, it's the style and originality. The Scrambler is synonymous with passion, and has as many facets as its owners. The Concept Path 22 is our interpretation of the R nineT. The R nineT is an ideal basis for transforming it into a Scrambler," says Edgar Heinrich, BMW Motorrad's Chief Designer.
