presentation of the R37 1925
A few years after the R32, BMW launches a second motorcycle model: the R37. Still powered by a 494 cm3 flat-twin, this machine made a spectacular leap in performance. Here, the engine delivers 16 horsepower at 4,000 rpm, i.e. twice as much power.
produced in 152 units, the BMW was sold at 2900 Reichmarks, almost 30% more expensive than the R32. Although its engine had the same cubic capacity as that of the first BMW motorcycle, it was clearly differentiated by several technical solutions. Valves placed at the head of the cylinder head, 26 mm carburetors, a compression ratio pushed to 6.2:1, and a different fin layout to improve cooling made this a much faster machine than the R32. With the R37, the brand had created its first sports bike. Transmission was, as usual, shaft-driven. On the market for two years, from 1925 to 1926, the BMW R37 enjoyed a successful racing career, winning numerous races of the era.
