Sport

the Cagiva 125 Mito is undoubtedly one of the most effective, and most sulphurous, of the small Italian sports bikes. Many of today's great racers have honed their skills on this machine, while others have bitter memories of the more-than-random reliability of this highly advanced machine. But all have fallen for its old-fashioned plasticity, copied from the legendary Ducati 916.

never retouched in its 916-type design for almost 15 years, the Mito underwent its biggest evolution since 1994 in 2008. What's immediately noticeable is the new face, with its bulging eyes separated by 2 central forced-air intake openings. The rounder styling and breather snout may not ring a bell... but GP 500 fans will recognize it as the face of the C594 that flew the Cagiva colors in Grand Prix racing in the mid-90s, notably in the hands of John Kocinski. The rear section has also been redesigned, with a tauter look, finished off with an LED light, indicators and a plate holder ready to be removed with 2 blows of a screwdriver (the call of the track).

euro 3 had no intention of sparing the Mito. So it adapted. Its 2-stroke single-cylinder engine now complies with anti-pollution standards. To achieve this, its 15 horsepower are fed by an electronically-controlled carburetor, then 2 catalytic converters installed in the exhaust bolt on noxious gases. That's for the road. Let's face it: the Mito is designed to express itself on the track. Behind its 15 legal kilos lie 35 to 40 horsepower, for competition use only. It's not for nothing that the Mito retains its aluminum perimeter frame, large 320 mm Brembo disc clamped by 4 pistons, 40 mm inverted fork and steering damper.

like all Ducatis, the Mito is an authentic sports bike, barely civilized for the road. It's a machine of passion that demands a lot: you'll need a good budget to buy it, a lot of maintenance and a close eye on the mechanics.

hello,
I'm a motorcycle enthusiast and more specifically a 125 cm3 Cagiva mito motorcycle since I already had a moped when I was young and I know what I'm talking about. I would like to know if this motorcycle has a choice of fairly common mechanical parts or if it's out of fashion

Hi there,
Like you, I'm a great 2-stroke enthusiast and the proud owner of a mito limp 7
Like all Italian cars in good and due form, it very often breaks down (electrically).

Parts are very difficult to access !!!!

Electrical parts are no longer mass-produced and have to be found on second-hand sites, with the risk of defective parts...
Fairings are hard to find..
Consumables (spark plugs, oils, chain kits, air filters, wheel bearings) are common and can be found everywhere
Finally, engine parts are readily available, even when new! At a significant cost!
No dealer available anymore...

i got this bike for 10K kilometers, 5K of which were spent breaking it in, because I tightened it 4 times, each time at a monstrous cost.
This sounds like a letter of protest, well, I'm giving this bike top marks, because it's a missile, you fall in love with it straight away, because of this bike I have a phobia of tightening, which prevents me from ever riding a two-stroke, but never mind, I'll always remember the first kick up the arse it gave me, as a little beginner on a 125 4-stroke.

Heuuu... you've got to stop now, I know guys who used to race their mito in competition, and with the wind at their back, they'd take 200 (odometer), which must make a good 180 easy, which is enormous for such a small mill

mine, 7-speed gearbox, carbon pot, worked like a charm, and pushed my 75 kilos to a good 180 (odometer), about 170 real, once again for a 125, and what a chassis, what a face, since then I've had a 748, the same one in big lol and what a sound!

but if I want to ride it around a bit without being afraid of crashing it, I'd go for a mito again, even if it means leaving the nice ducati aside for show, even if the big one also kicks ass on the racetrack, but it's not as expensive to crash

hi everyone, here i am again with my mito
i broke it after 14000 km (like on tzr and rs )
i had the engine rebuilt it cost me the skin of my ass and after 90 km of running in, rebuilt and complete engine at the expense of cagiva who had their ear to the ground to recognize the defective parts. although I'm super maniac with my mito, you're not safe from a breakage so a piece of advice if you're a BOURIN ride a 125 CBR? you'll look like you're riding a bike but at least you won't break!
see you soon!

Hi everyone, I've owned a mito for a year, since I got my 125 licence at 17, I'd like to warn all young people, I've had a hard time getting it insured because no one wanted to take me on! Now I'm with the Mutuelle des Motards, but I've had to get a 15hp bridle certificate. Otherwise I'd like to clear up all those who claim that the mito is more fragile than the rs: I changed the piston after 15,000km, I'm a mechanic, for fear of tightening it and it cost me 120euro for the complete piston + engine seals! g a 99 model, 7 speeds, mikuni 35 carburetor, with a 15 sprocket I can run (all alone I weigh 58 klg) and I pull 185km/h gran max! if kelkun has an address I'm looking for a pot and a 160 kit (new)... I owned a mito, I kept it for 6 months: it was a wrecking ball BUT even by respecting the warm-up times and by doubling up on maintenance I managed to serrate it... I've now had an RS for 2 years :nickel! less expensive maintenance (only a little less :) ) top speed a little lower but more potato in acceleration and less often at the dealer's! ! !
Mito to recommend... on circuit and with mechanical staff! for the others, I recommend the RS...

hi folks
i have a mito '99 kit 175 double ignition,55hp very reliable and 210 lap time. and i always laugh when i drop a bouze...heuu a RS. it's the perfect 125,very powerful even in 125 free, not recommended for beginners
maintenance is at the same level as performance=it's heavy stuff, but you have to know what you want. an F1 car isn't reliable either, but it'll take everyone's car away
if it tickles your fancy, go for the boite7 version with less than 20,000km.

I'm 35 and I've had a Mito Ev for 6 years, model 98. I'm happy with it, despite the maintenance. Without boasting, I can say that I know 2-strokes (I raced mobs 15 years ago). The maintenance comes down to a piston every 5000.A Nikasil when its diameter exceeds 56.10mm. Mine has 1 box 7, 35 MIKUNI carburettor, carbon silencer pot originating from Cagiva, 14 pinion and 40 crown, polished crankcases, valve stops spaced out to the max, no air box.You have to check the carburetion often, that's all.Despite my 80 kilos, I'm getting 205 on the odometer and the aprilia cries from 160.the range doesn't exceed 200 kms.there are other things to do, but the salesmen make a face when you tell them, so I don't write them down.the mito is reliable, you just have to know how to use it, that's all. hi crowd

i was able to test 2 125cc models, the RS and the mito, both of which are at war with each other lol I feel much more confident on my little mito which fits me like a glove lol I also own the 2000 model and the difference in power is very noticeable against the rs...on the other hand the aprillia has a much smoother engine :-)

It's a shame, 11 kg more than the RS... A real shame. Otherwise, super-efficient braking (watch out for the stoppie!) and lightning acceleration. the Jolymoto exhaust system and 30" carburetor have a lot to do with it :-) Rating : 5/5
French rs 125 Model 2008
Having been able to try out these 2 bikes, I could see that the rs was equal in power to the 2004 mito
If the previous version of the mito was more powerful, it was due to the 7 gears and the 34 carburetor..
Considering cagiva's reliability, I chose an rs 125. Which with some modifications is more powerful than a mito

I advise you to look here ;)

don't expect to drive 305 km on a full tank, unbridled, the reserve lights up at around 130 km for a range of 190 km (there's no reserve tap, just a warning gauge)
on my model (2004), it's a 6 and not a 7 gearbox, so I advise you to change the gearbox output pinion from a 14 to a 13, the difference in acceleration is clear on the first 3 gears and you won't lose any power by changing to the 6, especially in strong headwinds
if you're looking for a complete line, the only ones I've found are from "gianelli"

i also own a mito and one thing is sure, even if it runs well, an rs won't have the same performance as the mito. Now it's true that it's fragile, but I think the oil pump has something to do with it, so add some oil to the petrol tank as well. Now don't believe the one who claims to do 305kms, he's just pulling our legEnter the text of your comment here! Rating : 5/5

hi,i have a mito bought in 2004
it's a real bomb, after a debridage and the purchase of a silençieux "ninja d'aprilla rs":adapt easily by just drilling a hole in the mounting flange, I take a good 180
It's expensive to buy and maintain, but there's no better 125 on the market at the moment (especially not aprilla rs)
i've been riding a 125 for 15 years and I don't regret my purchase
