presentation of the 650 RAPTOR 2001
Cagiva, proud of its Raptor 1000, offers a 650 version of its bubbling roadster. The styling is surprisingly similar. Apart from the technical specifications, nothing seems to differentiate the little one from the big one. With this mini-Raptor, Cagiva makes no secret of its ambitions: to eat up the Monster 600 and the SV. To achieve this, the turbulent Italian borrows its engine from the Suzuki factory. The excellent twin receives special treatment: different carburation, 19 L airbox (1 more than the SV), dual exhausts, and a most interesting case. A solid perimeter trellis frame with an attractive 43 mm-diameter inverted fork. Braking, powerful but lacking in bite, is entrusted to Brembo. 10 kg heavier than the SV, the Raptor's acceleration is similar to that of the SV, and its feel is enhanced by a shortened gear ratio. Smoothness is always there, and the spark plug goes wild above 6,000 rpm. The machine is particularly precise and stable. Agility may seem inferior to that of a Monster, but is nonetheless of the highest order. Tilted forward a little, the rider will be comfortable, but not the passenger. Passenger space was not a design priority.
Cagiva offers an excellent machine, with playful, efficient and safe handling. However, it's no match for the SV. The bike's singular design in places can make all the difference. It will be available as a V-Raptor, with its original, oh-so-aggressive fork head, or as a Naked.
It's all very well, but it's taking a long time to arrive in France. Let's hope it finally arrives in 2005. In that case, it will be a slightly modified version, mainly in terms of the engine. The Raptor will still borrow the SV 650 's twin from Suzuki, but in a more recent, fuel-injected version. A little effort has gone into the finishing touches, with a passenger handle grafted onto the end of the Italian's posterior, and a small windscreen adding that extra touch.

Bikers' reviews Leave a review - 7 reviews
In terms of fuel consumption, the 5.5/6 liters per cent seems reasonable to me, and the 19-litre fuel tank offers a good range. Last but not least, this is an Italian bike, and while its sympathetic lines are reminiscent of Ducat's Monster, the little electrical glitches are commonplace, such as the rev-counter light or the blinkers that work when they want to.
