presentation of the 650 RAPTOR 2001

Cagiva, proud of its Raptor 1000, offers a 650 version of its bubbling roadster. The styling is surprisingly similar. Apart from the technical specifications, nothing seems to differentiate the little one from the big one. With this mini-Raptor, Cagiva makes no secret of its ambitions: to eat up the Monster 600 and the SV. To achieve this, the turbulent Italian borrows its engine from the Suzuki factory. The excellent twin receives special treatment: different carburation, 19 L airbox (1 more than the SV), dual exhausts, and a most interesting case. A solid perimeter trellis frame with an attractive 43 mm-diameter inverted fork. Braking, powerful but lacking in bite, is entrusted to Brembo. 10 kg heavier than the SV, the Raptor's acceleration is similar to that of the SV, and its feel is enhanced by a shortened gear ratio. Smoothness is always there, and the spark plug goes wild above 6,000 rpm. The machine is particularly precise and stable. Agility may seem inferior to that of a Monster, but is nonetheless of the highest order. Tilted forward a little, the rider will be comfortable, but not the passenger. Passenger space was not a design priority.

Cagiva offers an excellent machine, with playful, efficient and safe handling. However, it's no match for the SV. The bike's singular design in places can make all the difference. It will be available as a V-Raptor, with its original, oh-so-aggressive fork head, or as a Naked.

It's all very well, but it's taking a long time to arrive in France. Let's hope it finally arrives in 2005. In that case, it will be a slightly modified version, mainly in terms of the engine. The Raptor will still borrow the SV 650 's twin from Suzuki, but in a more recent, fuel-injected version. A little effort has gone into the finishing touches, with a passenger handle grafted onto the end of the Italian's posterior, and a small windscreen adding that extra touch.

1m85 and I bought this little bike! Beautiful, racy lines, a full engine at all revs, good liveliness. I really don't regret my choice, with its big tank there's no need to worry before 250 kms and the reserve just lights up, you have 330 kms of autonomy :) a delight. Only the turning radius is big and my legs want to unfold after 200 kms. For the rest, on small roads it's great and not frustrating at all. Rating : 4/5

i've owned a 650 Raptor since 2001, and wouldn't change a 1000 for the world. Super reliable, impeccable handling, even when driving a bit sporty, amazing braking (for its time, it had the braking of the rsv100r!!!). I fell in love with the looks (as I often do) and then with the whole thing. Rating : 5/5

As the owner of a brand-new Raptor 650 purchased on a whim in August 2006, I'm still in love with this machine, which has a lot going for it, but is not without its faults, for example: practicality O, no storage space, and mate, look after your battery, because if you need to change it, be brave! Spartan comfort, zero wind protection (I fitted a 36cm bubble), so forget about duo rides, this Italian-Japanese beauty only appreciates solo travel. The rear brake is there to assist the front brakes (double 4-piston discs each), because on hard braking, the wheel locks... Oops, some heat! The front end is devilishly precise, the twin-cylinder Suzuki with Italian fuel injection pushes merrily into the red zone, and when the road gets twisty, the big 4-legged cylinders have to be looked at through the mirrors (which I had changed, because the original ones end up moving as soon as the speed increases, so easily does the twin respond to the throttle and so sharp is the chassis, a real dragonfly. And yet, here in Belgium, it's incomprehensibly rare. Medium displacement doesn't mean medium pleasure, on the contrary! Rating : 5/5

French Model 2001
As a new member of the biker family, I fell for a second-hand Raptor 650 after a short period with a Diversion. Even if I don't have many other references, given my limited experience, I have to admit that after this bike it will be very difficult for me to buy a four-cylinder again, as the ever-present torque and the sound of the V2 are so pleasant. Once you've passed 3,000 rpm, there's no need to downshift to overtake quickly - pure happiness! On the other hand, it's not easy for a beginner to get to grips with the bike: the hyper-rigid chassis and driving position aren't exactly reassuring when the road is a little bumpy, but when you're driving on a "billiard table", no worries, you feel that there's still plenty of room for improvement, and it's hard to be scared off. The brakes seem OK, but not very powerful, and the seat is comfortable, but long trips are tiring, firstly because of the lack of protection (you're less tempted to go too fast!), and secondly because of the very upright (or bent) position of the legs. Not being very flexible by nature, I really suffer over 200 kms
In terms of fuel consumption, the 5.5/6 liters per cent seems reasonable to me, and the 19-litre fuel tank offers a good range. Last but not least, this is an Italian bike, and while its sympathetic lines are reminiscent of Ducat's Monster, the little electrical glitches are commonplace, such as the rev-counter light or the blinkers that work when they want to.

I own a very well-maintained red raptor 650. in my opinion, it has nothing but qualities, with its super-safe chassis and affordable maintenance costs due to the SV block. in short, it's really a bike full of charm and character. the only drawback is finding a second-hand bike ^^" Rating : 5/5

i own an SV650 as well as a raptor650 that I'm in the process of selling, and the latter gives me much more pleasure than the SV, thanks to its stability in curves, its wilder design, its riding precision and, above all, its magnability. The raptor is incredibly easy to ride, and swallows corners much faster than the SV. Rating : 5/5
