presentation of the K7 125 1990

Cagiva's 125cc trail bike lineup from the early 1990s consisted of three models that shared the same engine and frame. The trail bike with the large fuel tank was affectionately known as the N90, the Supercity served as the supermoto model, and the sporty enduro bike was called the K7.

The K7 had a surprising and, to say the least, innovative design. Unfortunately, it was saddled with highly questionable color schemes: an apple-green frame, white plastic parts, a black fuel tank, and a pink seat—enough to turn off a good portion of riders.

Technically, the K7 shared the Freccia’s 125cc 7-speed engine with the rest of the lineup (also used on the Mito and the brand’s other 125cc trail bikes). The engine produced just over 30 horsepower, and the 7-speed transmission promised good acceleration.

The chassis was well-built. The square-tube steel frame was a single-cradle design. The suspension had long travel (a conventional 260mm fork up front and a 270mm monoshock at the rear).

The K7 handled trails with ease. The engine, with a shorter final drive ratio compared to the N90 and Supercity, offered excellent low-end torque and allowed for plenty of off-road fun.

Nevertheless, these off-road qualities worked against it on the road. The short gear ratio required frequent shifting, and the seat height was inconvenient in the city.

Its color schemes and its price, which was too high compared to Japanese trail bikes (8,000 to 10,000 FF cheaper), relegated it to a secondary role in the French market.
