presentation of the 900 MHe 2001
a model of passion and exclusivity, the Ducati 900 MHe, descendant of the MHr, has earned a reputation for its many virtues. Top of the list: design. Magnificent, teasing, carefree, the MHe is a work of art, a timeless link between Ducati's current audacity and Mike Hailwood's prestigious '78 Tourist Trophy victory on the Isle of Man. But the special features don't stop there. Like many exceptional machines, the bike was produced in a limited series: 2,000 units, sold only on the Internet. Even before it hit the pavement, the MH "evoluzione" had all the makings of a legend.
But it remains first and foremost a Ducati. All you have to do is climb aboard to see for yourself. Low handlebars, ass in the air and legs tucked up, it's sporty and uncompromising. It's as easy to maneuver as a bus in an alley. And don't expect anything user-friendly from the seat. Green wood and butt-warming pots in no time. So we give thanks to the paltry autonomy that allows us to take healthy breaks.
Let's stop grumbling and enjoy our fortune. The magnificent exhausts release a contained voice. It's a shame for such an exciting model. But that doesn't detract from the twin's character. Taken from the 900 SS, the mill is thrilling: very supple, it pushes hard to reach 5,500 rpm, then pumps out the watts to peak power. I can already hear those who grumble: "for the price and the image, they could have used a 996 mill..." Yes, but what really counts on the MHe is aesthetics. We'd have gained in potato, but hoses everywhere and the big mess of the distribution, it would have been much less attractive than the finned twin. And, above all, this mill bears a striking resemblance to the one on the champion's wheel. To accentuate the resemblance, a false oil sump has been installed under the desmo.

The slightest stop is an excuse to admire this jewel. We drool over the sublime tubular swingarm, the chrome-plated crown carrier and stainless steel BTRs, the exceptional cockpit and, quite simply, the MHe's plasticity. A highly demanding machine with a mythical name and a unique personality.
