presentation of the 1584 ROCKER FXCW 2008

The Rocker causes a sensation !!!!!! Far from being a classic Softail, it represents Harley's boldest and most successful attempt to integrate "chopper" styling directly into its production range, offering a radical look straight from the factory, covered by a warranty, and without the need for a custom workshop.

Radical aesthetics: a factory chopper

The Rocker has been designed to capture the essence of the custom motorcycle, with long, low lines. Its most distinctive feature, and the heart of its visual identity, is undoubtedly the "Rockertail" assembly at the rear.

  • The massive rear tire: the Rocker is one of the first production Harley-Davidsons to feature an exceptionally wide 240 mm rear tire. This dimension lends a muscular, imposing appearance, in line with the high-end custom trends of the time.
  • The "floating" mudguard: the rear mudguard is firmly attached to the swingarm rather than the frame. Nicknamed the "hugger fender", it moves in concert with the wheel, giving the illusion of a rigid (hardtail) rear end in all circumstances and offering minimal space between tire and fender, even when the suspension is working.
  • Stretched front end: to complete the look, the front of the bike is considerably stretched. The caster angle is pushed to 36.5 degrees in the frame, stretching the total wheelbase to 1757.7 mm, a length that brings it closer to the creations of customization workshops.
  • Finish: unlike the more chrome-plated Rocker C, the standard FXCW features a more sober finish, with engine parts and other components often in satin or matte black, favoring a minimalist, raw aesthetic. It also features the original single-seat saddle.

Heart and soul: a softail with a strong character

Although it looks like a chopper, the Rocker is based on the proven technical platform of Milwaukee's Softail range.

It's powered by the Twin Cam 96B, a 1,584 cm³ air-cooled V-Twin with twin balancer shafts and a substantial 117 Nm of torque at 3,200 rpm, ensuring crisp acceleration and enough torque for cruising.

Despite its rigid appearance, the Rocker is a Softail, meaning that its rear shocks are hidden horizontally beneath the engine, ensuring a ride comfort far superior to that of a true hardtail, while retaining its sleek aesthetics.

The dashboard is minimalist, with a Speed Shop-style speedometer integrated into the tank, displaying essential information (mileage, trips, fuel gauge).

The driving experience

The Rocker's ride is intrinsically linked to its radical geometry. The riding position is typical of a custom: feet and arms extended forward. The long wheelbase and wide rake require more effort to initiate turns than a conventional Softail, but the bike maintains excellent straight-line stability at high speeds, with neutral, predictable steering manners.

Braking is handled by a single 292 mm disc at the front, clamped by a four-piston caliper, and a similarly sized disc at the rear. For a cruiser weighing in at nearly 311 lb/d dry, the system may seem fair.

The Harley-Davidson Rocker FXCW is aimed at the biker who dreamed of a modern-age chopper, but demanded the reliability, warranty and dealer network of a major manufacturer like Harley. It could deviate into more advanced customization... but why? In its original form, it already embodies a radical look with its dark finish, solo seat and devastating silhouette, leaving little doubt as to its intention: to dominate the asphalt in style.
