the first M 1800 R intruder was breathtaking: a twin with a displacement approaching 2 liters, a futuristic design completely out of step with the genre's canons, a sporty front end and more than 120 horsepower. Its close cousin, the C 1800 R, takes up the twin's fiery spirit, but gives it a wiser, more classic, completely custom look to appeal to a very conservative market.

in this C version, the intruder 1800 takes up the codes of the segment, with a big round headlamp, chrome in every corner, a big hooded forke 49 mm forks, and huge tires (150 front, 240 rear). Long, imposing, almost noble, the C 1800 R is a direct competitor to the famous Harley Fat Boy. But with its engine, it's a match for the roaring Triumph Rocket III and Kawasaki VN 2000. Aboard this lanky, heavy machine, it's hard to imagine the firepower available under the right hand. With nearly 400 kg on the scales and shoes as wide as avenues, the Suzuki is the complete opposite of a nice 125 frolicking around town. So we preferred cruising towards more open horizons. The riding position, the low seat, the wide handlebars and the non-existent protection encourage cool riding, lulled by the powerful cooing of the huge bowls. But if you feel like revving up the boiler, remember to hang on tight. Under the effort of 112 mm pistons, a good hundred horsepower and strong torque peaking at over 15 mkg catapult the intruder with vigor. The engine is a little too typical of 4 valves per cylinder, with less power than expected down low, and a much more gnarly 2nd phase in the second range. For a machine of this caliber, more effective braking would have been welcome. It's a bit of a paradox with the C 1800 R: its size, chassis and life on board make it ideal for highways, but its engine offers a more turbulent feel and character.

I have owned one since October 2018. This motorcycle is a hyper custom.
A beautiful neo-retro machine, all it needs is the latest technological improvements (LED lighting).
Although mine weighs 430 kgs fully equipped, its acceleration and speed are second to none.
Its only fault, if it can be considered a fault at all, is the width of its rear tire, which lacks roundness and swings the bike left and right when riding on uneven pavement.
As for the rest, there's nothing to say. My vintage-look custom is an incredible vessel with which I ride, ride, ride with immense pleasure.

Great look - I gave up my Harley 1340 electra. However, big problem backing up; a rear step would have been welcome. Other than that, it's a great ride, lacking a bit of recovery at the bottom, but not too bad. I'll be riding a Harley next, though: torque on a Harley. Rating : 5/5
