presentation of the 250 RC 166 1966
Nicknamed the "Honda 6", the RC 166 is one of the most famous GP machines in the 250 class. Its 6-cylinder engine was capable of staggering performance and engine speeds. Nearly 19,000 rpm, around 60 horsepower and tiny moving parts that had to withstand insane stresses.
Imagine the work of each connecting rod, barely longer than the width of your hand. They had to traverse the cylinder more than 300 times a second as the engine screamed out its maximum force. A block with so little inertia that it would stall if the driver didn't hold back the throttle a little when stationary.
Mike Hailwood shone brilliantly at its helm: his domination was disgusting (for the competition) as the British rider and the Japanese bike won almost all the races of the season (10 / 12).
