presentation of the EV Outlier Concept 2026
Honda projects its vision of the future in this EV Outlier. This electric concept bike takes the manufacturer beyond 2030. At least, that's how it sees its vision for motorcycles. With such an exercise in style, we'd like to think that the future will be just as surprising. When it was unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show, the machine caused quite a stir, blazing a trail between manga and tomorrow's urban mobility.
Was the future written in stone? It would be easy to think so, as the EV Outlier instinctively reminds us of the motorcycle in the film Akira. The overall lines and streamlined front end are strikingly inspired by Kaneda's bike. Like Kaneda, it is powered by two-wheel drive.
This old fantasy, rarely realized, exists on the EV Outlier thanks to the installation of an electric motor in each wheel. An atypical solution, but a potentially formidable one for ensuring top-level driveability.
The vision afterwards
Contrary to what its sleek silhouette suggests, the Honda is in no way aimed at sport. With a seat set far back and footrests far forward, the riding position and category of this machine would classify it more as a scooter-custom - rather like the extravagant NM4 Vultus and DN-01 (production models).
Technologically advanced, the Honda EV Outlier allows its designers to go off in more directions. It features a transparent fairing, monocoque frame structure, parallelogram fork (similar to the GoldWing), bucket-type seat and adjustable footrests, horizontal suspension under the chassis (like the Voxan of the 2000s) and next-decade instrumentation.

It's split into two parts: a TFT screen on the tank displays mode settings, front engine torque adjustment and information such as front and rear wheel movement according to road conditions. The other, mounted on the handlebars and almost as wide as them, provides all essential riding information, except for the edges, which are reserved for a camera-powered rear view.
It's a vision, a concept... It's pointless expecting any data on power, weight or performance. But it does give an idea of what Honda has in mind. What will we see in real production in the future?
