presentation of the VARADERO XL 1000 V 2010
after undergoing a major change in 2003, the 1000 Varadero continues on its way, true to its vocation as a big road trail bike. Well, when we say trail... it's been a long time since this XLV ventured into ruts and muddy roads. On the other hand, it's still a model of choice for the road. It has held its own against new rivals such as the Aprilia Caponord or the Suzuki V-Strom... The more experienced R 1200 GS is still a step ahead, and behind it, it's starting to feel the pinch.moto-Morini Gran Passo, Moto-guzzi Stelvio, Buell XB-12SX, and above all the KTM 990 Adventure have more than enough appetite for the sector.
honda has therefore decided to review its copy. The Varadero will regain confidence in its qualities thanks to a few improvements across the board. The excellent V-twin from the late VTR sports bike is still there, but reprogrammed to meet Euro 3 standards. As a result, a new exhaust is fitted between the redesigned rear side covers. These now incorporate the turn indicators. Underneath the engine, the plastic skid plate has finally been removed to make way for a sturdier, more trail-oriented aluminum element. The Varadero gets a new, more stylish dashboard, a revised seat for greater comfort, lockable storage compartments and a luggage kit. ABS is now standard.

I've always ridden a motorcycle
La varadero c top fiable pas entretien tenue de route impeccable c vraiment une moto pour moi exponentielle Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
Sure, it's not made for the little ones with its seat height, it's not made for those who weigh 60kg with its 270kg full weight (no luggage, no fairing protector, no frills).
Admittedly, it doesn't like mud, but it goes well in slag or on dry tracks. She's royal on asphalt and not afraid of any bend. You have to give yourself the means to tame her, time above all. Too bad they stopped making it... I wouldn't know what to replace it with. It's now got 83,000km on it, and I'm hoping it'll do twice that. Not the slightest glitch, not even a timing chain noise, no valve adjustment, nothing, nada, just oil, petrol, tires, spark plugs every 50,000 and a chain kit every 30,000km.
Oh yes, I've got a blown rear bulb and a blown license plate light.
But then what?
I've tried them all:
The CrossTourer is even heavier, even less adventurous... BMW 1200 GS? No reliability, even if it's brand-new, it's THE best bike in the world they say, Tiger 1200? It's the same, but more expensive, heavier and packed with electronics, 1000 VStrom 2014 ? not tested, but not enthusiastic... Kawa 1000 ? It's a leggy supermotard, but not really... Guzzi Stelvio ? a tank, bof, bof... KTM 1190 Adenture? Maybe, but it costs an arm and a leg to buy and maintain, and it's so high-legged that with my 1m85, I have trouble getting on and off. It's riddled with electronics too. No, nothing will replace it...
I'm afraid the announced new Africa Twin will also be a bag of chips. C\'est à la mode. But at least with Honda, we can be confident that it will hold up, so that we don't go out into the world with fear in our bellies and a cheque book in our hands. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Patrick

Only the high weight is a handicap for moving it at a standstill.
I'm also waiting for a new Africat Twin: max 210kg, 90hp like the BM800GS or Tiger 800XC, but with dealers everywhere. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Paul
And when will the Africa-Twin and the 600 XLR return: real trail bikes! Rating : 3/5 Respond to catman
Satisfied in every way, what a pleasure to ride.
Thanks to Honda for thinking ahead and offering us a similar model. Rating : 4/5 Participate in the conversation
It's heavy and clumsy, but you can't have everything. On special offer with coupled braking and the Abs, don't hesitate. Other models are sexier, but so much more expensive and less well equipped. Some, too, are versatile, like the new Tiger, which is still finding its feet. So motorcycles are like cars: the most mature models are also the best. Bonne route.... Rating : 5/5 Respond to cephil
