Motorcycle specifications HondaVARADERO XL 1000 V 2002 Grande dame of asphalt

presentation of the VARADERO XL 1000 V 2002
Who would have bet on the success of the Varadero? When it was unveiled, this enormous trail bike stirred up a lot of controversy. A peculiar design, a weight that wasn't really contained, a high-slung seat and a price tag in the same vein: not a foregone conclusion for this beast. What's more, this particular tourer encroached on the segment benchmark: the BMW R 1150 GS. But in use, the Honda won everyone over. In addition to its high level of comfort, the machine's biggest strength is its bubbling engine. Nothing less than the VTR 1000 's excellent V-twin powers the happy crew. Revised to deliver more torque, the twin-cylinder engine exudes health and personality.
With a mill like this and comfortable suspension, the Varadero flies down the road. With excellent protection, top-notch seating and a delighted passenger, the Honda lets you rack up the kilometers at sustained speed without a care in the world... except for fuel consumption. The twin is gluttonous, and the 5-speed gearbox doesn't help curb its appetite. The long-travel suspension provides a great deal of comfort, but doesn't make the Honda a magician of trajectories. That doesn't stop it from being surprisingly maneuverable (for a machine of this calibre). The CBS coupled braking system is very reassuring, and will certainly be fitted to all Honda road models in the near future. Even if the bike remains a trail bike (well, mostly in spirit), don't count on it to make any off-road forays - its off-road capabilities are virtually non-existent. On tarmac, however, the Varadero is a queen of the road.

Well, I've just bought a VARADERO for my road trip to the North Cape... Yes, it's the second one I've bought, and I've got blind confidence and comfort!
Just so you know, I've got a DUCATI 749 for pleasure, and the VARAD is my outlet for commuting 450 km to and from the office (Arras Paris)...Although I've got a company car...But under the helmet I'm ageless!

i can't wait for the weather to get a bit better, but first of all, we'll have to be careful all the time!!!! Mesdames, Messieurs bonne route! Rating : 4/5 Respond to Kouid
Reading the comments, I recognize my 2002 bike. I really enjoy riding it, alone or with a friend, even though a few years ago I had a bandit 1200 naked that I really liked. Nothing in common, but I love this Varadero, especially now that I'm a few years older. Maybe you can help me, I bought a starter relay to change it but I'm looking for the red plastic part that's stuck on it because the plugs are corroded and I can't start anymore. I don't know the name of this part but the relay is always sold alone without the part that plugs into it

Having ridden a 1300 fjr, 1200 BMW, Mt09, I find the Varadero a good compromise for a moderate second-hand budget.
BONNE route à tous et prudence. Rating : 4/5 Respond to Gigi
it happened all of a sudden... I'm thinking of the air filter... in short, I'm interested in your comments

Hi everyone DD Rating : 5/5 Respond to D D
in reply to CYANA26, I can confirm that on my bike I have never reached 10l/100. I've had this bike for several years and I systematically note my fuel consumption at every fill-up. My average is 6.7L/100, with a minimum of 5.1L/100 and a maximum of 7.8L/100, which I got during a motorway trip with 2 people on the bike, fully loaded (2 full top case suitcases) and with a strong headwind. So have a nice trip with the VARADERO! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Rem's
I can confirm that it's an excellent, easy-to-handle tourer. As I'm a tall man, I can't think of a bike I'd rather replace it with. Bravo to Honda for building this magnificent adult bike. It's a real pleasure to ride, and to try it is to adopt it

a bit heavy in town, but after a few months you get used to it, more of a highway eater
very comfortable a bit gluttonous (7litres) beware of the panniers they are wider than the handlebars, wonderful braking even without ABS bonne route a tous

66,000 km (I know I drive a lot), bike still perfect, changed chain kit at 48,000, no vibrations since I changed the tires, I drive with Bridgestone BT 020 front and rear, fairly soft rubber (4500 km rear tire) without making any burns of course. I'm going to change it for the injection model soon, but I'll never change my Varadero for another model. Rating : 5/5 Respond to max
There's some steering between 140 and 150, which disappears above that, but 140 is sometimes hard to hold (wind and asphalt are aggravating factors). Sometimes, because I don't check it all the time.
The most disturbing problem for me is its fuel consumption. It's hard to get it down below 7 liters per cent. Petrol is getting expensive..
but I'm happy with it! Rating : 5/5 Respond to ludodelyon
