Motorcycle specifications HondaVFR 1200 F DCT 2017 A new generation of motorcycles?

by taking on the VFR name and an overabundance of technology, this very special Honda set out to shake up the category. But success was not to be, as the VFR 1200 was closer to a CBR XX than to the accomplished Sport-GT that is the VFR 800. The last examples will leave in 2017, the few permitted by Euro4 legislation. After that, it will be a big memory, coming back from an ambiguous path. A quiet but not set course. In 2012, the big VFR benefited from a series of technical improvements. Starting with the engine and its vigor. The torque curve has been significantly enhanced, mainly between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm. The PGM-FI injection system has been revised to improve efficiency, while the fuel tank has been enlarged by half a liter (to 19 litres). The result is greater riding pleasure and longer range. And it's just as well: the seat has been given a new finish, and is now even more comfortable.
A fan of technology, and powered by high horsepower - 173, that's more than a lot... - the 1200 VFR is now equipped with traction control. Honda's TCS (Traction Control System), which relies on the slightest loss of grip to calm this big sport-GT. By comparing wheel speeds, the TCS reduces engine power in order to avoid a spill. It would be a tribute to the bike's high expectations that have inspired a generation of motorcyclists.
the VFR DCT's robotized gearbox was also fine-tuned in 2012. In D mode (fully automatic), the electronic control unit adapts gear changes to the rider's behavior. The system takes several parameters into account to automatically choose between two mappings, one for normal conditions, which minimizes gear changes for greater smoothness, the other for heavy loads, which shifts gears more directly to favor acceleration and engine braking.
Whether D or S automatic modes are selected, Honda's second-generation dual clutch also allows manual intervention: at any time, the rider can use the '+' or '-' controls in MT mode to select the desired gear. Then, if no further action is registered, the system takes over and continues to operate in automatic mode.
how many years have we been waiting for this new VFR? Four years? Ten? Does it matter now... When the new VFR was revealed, it was the discovery of much more than just an evolution of this very famous motorcycle. This model shook up many established references. A new engine, a new frame, a new design, a new way of thinking about sport-GT, a new generation of machines.
You're intrigued by these fairing panels, aren't you? It's no longer a full fairing as we used to think of it. In recent years, especially on sport bikes, the surface area has been reduced and purified. On the VFR 1200 F, the hoof has clearly separated from the rest of the bodywork. The bike is now clad in a deep, multi-layered fairing. The cavities created between the headlight and the sides channel airflow and improve stability at high speeds. Two additional panels grafted behind the main panels add styling effect and help evacuate hot air away from the rider's knees. The shoulders of the bike are gently curved to meet the sides of the tank, whose central section is in a different color. It's a new take on the full fairing seen on some BMWs. This elaborate design almost makes us forget one of its major roles: protection. And here, it would seem, the mission has been very successful. The rider should be more than satisfied with the shelter. A driver who won't know which way to turn at first, because between the V4, its power, discovering the new commodos (more ergonomic, redesigned, with an inversion of the position of the horn and indicators), and decioh, there's nothing revolutionary about the information (speed, gear engaged, engine and outside temperature, clock, fuel level and consumption), but the styling is particularly well done. 2 digital windows enclosing the needle-type rev counter - beautiful, functional, elegant!
now for the ones you've all been waiting for. THE ENGINE. Tired of hearing for years that the VFR 800 lacks torque (it's always compared to much more generously powered machines in its segment), Honda went all out to create a new V4. But it has nothing to do with the identity of its predecessors. Gone are the days when VFRs were powered by a 90° Superbike V4 derived from the fabulous RVF competition bikes. This time, it's an entirely new block, dedicated to this VFR, with a new 76° angle, a displacement of 1237 cm3, and colossal power worthy of a hypersport. The VFR 1200 F develops 173 horsepower. A figure that leaves us breathless. Torque is in excess of 13 mkg at 8750 rpm - 80% of which is available from 3000 rpm. From sport-GT, the VFR has almost become hypersport-GT. Only its wet weight of 267 kg (some 10 kg more than the 800 V-tec) will remind us of its pretensions. And that's not all: this engine has been designed with integration in mind. The rear cylinders are placed side by side, but very close together, while the front cylinders are more widely spaced. The result is a slim, compact design that fits snugly between the rider's legs, while helping to centralize mass.
The electronic control will offer two automatic modes: normal or sport. For purists, it will be possible to switch to manual mode.
The video below shows the various uses of the dual-clutch automatic gearbox (which will probably be extended to other Honda models).
the safety chapter, dear to Honda, has obviously received just as much attention. For the first time on a sports tourer, the clutch is limited-slip, just like on pure pistardes. This prevents the rear wheel from locking up when downshifting hard. ABS is fitted as standard, backed up by combined front-rear braking, and the 320 mm discs are gripped by 6-piston radial calipers. The chassis is designed to withstand the rigors of the sport. The 43 mm inverted fork is anchored by a large aluminum double-beam frame, the kind you'd expect to find on an SBK machine. The swingarm, which plays a big part in the VFR's identity, is completely new, now equipped with a universal joint. Even if it's not an innovation (BM has been doing it for a long time), it's a big step forward for this sport-GT, which is equipped with this element long requested by VFR owners. At the ends of the machine, the slim-spoke rims are simply superb.
this VFR 1200 F wanted to make its mark, perhaps more than the VFR 750 did. Technologically, Honda has done very well. And 24 years on, the most famous of sport-GTs wanted to recreate what it once initiated: a new way of riding. A challenge partly met....

Very solid and well-designed bike
Doesn't steer and steering a bit heavy below 10 kph
Center of gravity a little high (disconcerting when stationary) Rating : 5/5 Respond to Arnaud Soyez

i can keep up with the younger riders on 400 km of mountain trails like the route des grandes alpes. The only little problem is that I have to remember to leave the parking lot with my bike and luggage, which is a bit heavy to move backwards. Rating : 4/5 Respond to JACQUES
Very agile and powerful
You quickly forget its weight
it remains stable at high speeds
With the DCT gearbox it's TOP

Engine failure 3,000km after the big 48,000km overhaul I'd anticipated.
It happened on the freeway at 19° with a speed of 150km/h, the bike didn't heat up, the oil level was ok, the water level too.
It seems to be a broken connecting-rod bearing (it took 8 hours of labor to check it).
Honda wouldn't listen and didn't find the breakage unusual.
I'll never buy another Honda in France. Honda France is the worst after-sales service in the motorcycle world. Rating : 1/5 Respond to VFR galère
I fell with it because of a brake blockage. I braked with the pedal first, which blocked the left caliper and the rear caliper. After checking, the mechanic told me that for this bike the ABS is operational for both wheels, so to brake you have to use both brakes at the same time
Thank you for confirming this information, as I'm currently experiencing brake fobia and can't manage to get up to speed or take corners Rating : 1/5 Respond to Chah
i've had this 2012 VFR 1200 for 15 days, the dealer thinks the front discs are defective and tells me they've never had any problems since the VFR 1200 came out! thank you for your feedback.... Rating : 1/5 Participate in the conversation
J'ai exactement le même souci sur ma vfr 1200 (2011) mais depuis deux ans les différents concessionnaires me donnent des explications très simpliste, bulles d'aire dans le circuit problèmes de plaquettes mal adaptées etc...
since then I've had a right-hand disc replaced and the current one needs changing too. a Honda France manager came to see me and agreed, gritting his teeth, to take only the disc under warranty, too kind....but not the rest (changing the pads, cleaning the calipers, etc.).at my expense it's cool) knowing that the left disc has 70000 kms and the right 30000 kms the not very normal wear is obvious no frank answer from the head office. all this is very dangerous we can kill ourselves at any time I will start a procedure of registered letter to Honda with copies to the various specialized newspapers
don't hesitate to contact me to let me know if you've made any progress

I ride a VFR800 FI (RC46A) and I have an R1100 RT, I've ridden Hayabusa, K1200S, Hypersport R1 and I'm forgetting.
I love my VFR800 FI and R1100 RT. But when I tried out the 2011 VFR 1200 F (a very low-mileage second-hand model at a bargain price), I signed the cheque on the spot. I optimized the engine to use it in its original configuration.
Now I'm twirling it around corners and keeping up with my friends' 1000 hypersports. Its ergonomics are perfect, the riding position is ideal for me (1m70), its weight is completely forgotten thanks to its balance, its braking is Dantesque (verified on an emergency stop at high speed) and the bike doesn't flinch. It's on a rail on fast, even very fast corners. It handles almost like a hypersport, and goes a long way without tiring (1,000 km in a day, with 30% freeway and 70% country roads). It's got torque to spare and hair-raising acceleration. You have to keep your wits about you, but it's not tricky, and it's totally controllable with the right-hand grip (no surprises there).
It's insensitive to crosswinds and divinely absorbs bumps and holes while imperiously staying on course.
The next step for me is to ride it on the track, where I'm sure it will surprise me positively.
Yes, its range is limited and its weight consequent (only when stationary), but its ergonomics are perfect and its plastic is magnificent. Without any flaws, it would be too perfect.
In conclusion, this is a revelation for me, the grail of motorcycling.
It's the best bike I've ever owned, and if I change it, it'll be for the same model. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Thierry

Having made the purchase in 2013, satisfied with this motorcycle, but about 15 days ago I noticed that the paint on the sides of the tank was coming off, having asked at the dealership, I was told that it came from the strong pants, so I called Hondafrance, customer service, very nice person, who told me I'll keep you informed, the next day this person called me back,i was amazed to get a quick reply, the problem is that it's not from them, no problem on this series, but it's up to me to protect the sides and all the parts that are at risk, including under the seat, from the rubbing of the passenger's pants, so I'm dissatisfied with the service and the warranty, because a motorcycle at 16,000â'¬ is a bit daring

The phenomenon: Are the brakes jamming? Do you feel that the bike is chattering and braking? The discs deform and take on the shape of a hollow plate. Check with a straight edge, you'll be surprised.
Honda's known but unrecognized problem: they explain exactly what happens (dirt gets between the 2 pads and the smaller one goes askew, forcing it onto the disc)
In short, I'm going to scrap it Rating : 3/5 Respond to PGR95
if not, it's from 2010, so I'm keeping it before buying another one, but ... in full, hoping that Europe will kick our authorities' asses to achieve this more quickly

Otherwise I've bought a RED dct. It's a change from my CB600N /0/. I'd say it's the perfect training vehicle for getting your butt out of the seat in curves... it just comes to you :-) What a panard! As for the range, I'm doing 280km but I'm only putting back 14litres ... let's just say the warning light anticipates well ... 4 liters left. And I've already reached 350km on the freeway with regular driving. The problem is that it consumes less at prohibited speeds :-] Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
1) once at zero, the engine should be disconnected in neutral.
2) the seat a little more comfortable for long trips, otherwise a perfection Rating : 5/5 Respond to bijou
i've just read the technical data sheet and the presentation of the VFR 1200 F? As a VFR 800 V TEC user, I have a question..... Is it possible to unbridle this magnificent machine?

Unfortunately, I didn't have the automatic gearbox, but I was able to appreciate the riding position, and the engine's pleasure with its torque at very low revs, which revs up whatever your speed. This bike is a stingray on the road, and remains quite maneuverable, even if it prefers national roads and expressways. It's still a pleasure to ride on winding roads.
On the other hand, although the position is very pleasant for the passenger, the huge gap between the rider and the person behind is not always pleasant: the view is certainly unique, and you get a real kick out of the landscape, but also the wind. And during heavy braking, you're quickly propelled forward, and the rider doesn't hold back until it's too late. So if you're going to have a duet, you really need to go easy on the brakes.
A small negative point that I brought to the attention of the dealer, the bike had a problem with the front forks and was steering very slightly, which wasn't great during the test ride. It seems that this was due to a previous crash (test bike), which is a pity because it's really fun to ride. Rating : 4/5 Respond to Yffic
frankly I like it, but it's true that the weight is not the best, it's as heavy as my old cbr1000f.because being of average size it's true for handling it's not the best.and there's the price I have a 99 cbr1100xx if I want to change it çà make a lot to give especially in these times of crisis....dommage

The VFR1200 is a blend of attributes from the ST1300, CBR1100XX and VFR800, making it a SPORT touring bike at its best. Take the time to try it out and you'll understand. I understand! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Pacman52
Negative points: 1- its price 2- here in Quebec, it's classified as a sport (more expensive for SAAQ body insurance).
Conclusion: I'm keeping it... (2010 VFR1200) Rating : 4/5 Respond to Pacman52
Truly a success, in every respect except that cursed 100 HP law.
This bike is the evolution towards a category variant which remained on an archetype of GT bike à la BM sauce or of nostalgic who believes to have, to know what is a good bike.
As far as I'm concerned, a good motorcycle can be many things: sport, trail, GT, cushy custom, a bit of everything depending on your mood, and for me, the VFR 1200 is a close match.

if we're in france, the power is only 100hp and it's a calf! moreover it's limited to 250km/h The torque is there but the vfr is driven like a good big fuel oil (between 3500 and 6000rpm) after that there's nothing left! range: not much for the category, I'm doing 7.5l/100 without pulling it, so... in short, nothing revolutionary; it's clearly not the vfr1200 that's going to revolutionize the world of sportbikes. Handling is identical or even better, despite weighing a few kilos more. But I also have a few problems with the engine when I'm driving in 1st or 2nd gear in town, as it's difficult to gauge and causes clutching. Otherwise, it works very well. As for the engine, it's a pity it's clamped, because I even have the impression that my vtec was more nervous, so it's hard to see what it could do without this damned clamp... As for the rest, everything's great; good brakes, shock absorbers...
One little thing that's a bit unpleasant, when it rains, for a few minutes it causes condensation to rise from the radiator, a beautiful white smoke that covers the windscreen and the mirror...the first time this has happened to me of all my previous bikes. Rating : 5/5 Respond to mickaelvfr

I think it's lost some of its significant VFR soul, but let's wait to see it in real life. In any case, it's a BM and no longer the aggressive, "sexy" sport GT that's made me fall in love with it for so long.
