presentation of the Regina Evo 2023
Horex is not what you'd call a mainstream brand. Very discreet, it has so far made its presence felt with just one model, the VR6. But this is not just any motorcycle. A powerful roadster, powered by a very narrow 6-cylinder V-twin. So narrow that only one cylinder head is needed.
The arrival of a new model is a small event in itself. The Regina Evo is a classy reminder of one of the German manufacturer's illustrious ancestors. The Regina, in fact; a 350 from the '50s. Its great-great-great-granddaughter shares its style, with curvaceous charm and a particularly successful retro style. On the technical side, the Horex is very, very strong... and very surprising.
A case of carbon! A large part of the bike is made of this material. It is used for the frame and swingarm (like a certain Ducati Superleggera), the headlight pod, mudguards, seat support and luggage rack. A spectacular exercise, the effect of which quickly shows up on the scales. The 21st-century Regina weighs just 133 kilos.
It's also packed with goodies, such as Horex-engraved fork crowns, Beringer brake calipers, an intricate headlamp with a large luminous H, polished casings, a minimalist 3D-printed saddle (adjustable to 790 mm or 810 mm), a tapered aluminum fuel tank, beautifully crafted foot controls, mysterious side air intakes for the airbox, aluminum spoked wheels and finely crafted commodos.
On-board information is displayed on a small, circular 3-inch color TFT dial, cleverly integrated on top of the headlight. The latter features adaptive cornering lights.
The choice of motorization leaves us more perplexed. This remarkable machine, bordering on nobility, is powered by a 600 cm3 single-cylinder engine developing 48 hp. We've seen better in terms of prestige. Not very pretty to look at, with an unobtrusive injector body to boot, this block claims to have benefited from German technical care during its design..... But information on its original birth is very evasive. We wouldn't be surprised if the block came from China. Let's save it for a moment, and point out that the cooling radiator is well integrated, that its power makes it accessible to A2s, and that it can be backed up by traction control.
Not that young licensees will be ready to take the plunge. Because the Régina Evo will cost an eyeful with all that carbon. Indiscretions suggest a minimum price of €30,000.....
