Let's be, for a paragraph, in bad faith and mention that the Russians compete with 300-kilo baggers powered by twins with an output of 70 hp/liter; while Europeans use 200-kilo hypersports with 220 hp/liter distillers.

It's about offering a more dynamic, almost edgier ride, by modifying the chassis of this big custom. Indian could have contented itself with a purely marketing approach, just grafting on a fork head and a fashionable paint job. But no, this Chief really wants to get moving.

the word "sport" hasn't reached the engine. It's as if the 116 Thunderstroke couldn't care less about the dictates of pure performance. It's all about emotion, visual vociferation and abundant torque with every stroke of the connecting rod. Maximum torque exceeds 16 mkg at 3,200 rpm - and by then, you're already in the upper mid-range. With almost 1.9 liters of displacement in the gut, the twin can give heart to the work and enough to get the heart off the ground; without reaching missile speeds.

Indian 1890 Sport Chiefthis Indian gives its rider plenty of freedom. No traction control, anti-wheeling or trajectory control - which is what we're all waiting for. Electronics are limited to three engine maps, LEDs wherever they light up, ABS... and also keyless start, USB port, cruise control and a 10 cm circular TFT color display. The Ride Command software inside allows you to take the bike's pulse, control your phone and music, and use a GPS navigator. All in all, a Sport Chief in terms of equipment.

so, let's be clear, the 1890 Sport Chief isn't a sportbike, a rough roadster or a bike with sharp fangs. It's a more incisive take on the standard Chief, but not one to be trifled with.

A pleasure to ride this bike, I had indian chief sporting 2024 and the Dr.Mekill & Mr.Hyde pot to wind up the interfilles, it's top. And the torque is great. Great. Its little flaw is the mudguards, which are too short in the rain, and the water spray at the rear is terrible... that's it. Rating : 5/5
