presentation of the 1811 CHIEFTAIN 2014

crossing the USA is a mixture of dream and legend, an initiation rite for some, the ultimate adventure for others. But it has to be done with the right machine, one that exudes road manners from one end of the chassis to the other. For its rebirth under the Polaris umbrella, Indian has equipped itself with a machine capable of overshadowing the tenors of the genre, Victory Cross Country, Honda F6B, Harley Street Glide or Kawa 1700 Voyager Custom. A majestic machine, where personality and mechanics inspire respect, curiosity and paroxysmal presence: the Chieftain.

the first tourer in the history of Indian, the 1800 Chieftain is as eye-catching as it is mileage-grabbing. Its large, chunky headstock is not just another copy of the Harley "pig nose", but has its own identity. Another nod to the past, with a marked reference to the Streamliner style of the trains of the late '30s. Extensive protection, a large illuminated porthole accompanied by a pair of sidekicks, ample LED turn indicators - what a headdress! What's more, the windscreen is electrically adjustable, with 12 centimetres of travel. Plenty of chrome on top, and you're seduced.
Not yet? Well, the Indian 111 ci Chieftain has what it takes to win you over. Its hard cases are electrically lockable and mounted on quick-release anchors. The leather seat, keyless ignition and pneumatically-adjusted shock absorber are just some of the features you'll find on the best road bikes: ABS, cruise control, Bluetooth-enabled audio system, tire pressure gauge, 12V socket, etc...
The Chieftain also boasts a rich, elegantly designed dashboard. A host of gauges share the display with two needle dials and a digital window as informative as those on German cars.

unusual and passionately Indian, the Chieftain is based on the same chassis-engine assembly as the Chief Classic and Vintage. It features a cast aluminum frame with integrated airbox, brakes with 300 mm discs and 4-piston front calipers (2 at the rear), 46 mm forks and pneumatic monoshock.
A real heart of beef, the Chief's engine is "modestly" called Thunder Stroke 111. A superb metallic ode blending modernism and nostalgia, this 1811 cm3 twin pushes with 14 mkg of muscle and rind. More than an engine, it's one of the things that makes you fall for an Indian. Like, more anecdotally, the Native American headdress on the mudguard, the ample wheel skirts, or that big Indian head logo running down each side of the tank.

whether an exceptional bagger or a tourer with prestige accents, the Indian Chieftain almost hesitates between the two, and its price confirms its premium orientation. At over 26,000 euros, it's considerably more expensive than a competing Harley, much more than the neighboring Victory, and much more than certain Japanese productions. But there's something about the Indian, a thrill that's all its own.

i've always been a biker and got my kicks on different machines, my brand has always been HD! i had an electra glide ultra classic good! unfortunately not well maintained by the former owner. recently my indian bikers gave me a taste of indian !!!! i had to choose HD street glide or chieftain!!! tough! well recently i chose, the chieftain i get my kicks ouffff . Un pur bagger vintage du 21 éme siecle!
French Franck D. Model 2015
Biker since 40, several motorcycles and for 16 years, I've been riding Harleys (5 HD from dyna to 1 softail and 4 touring).
Like many, I was initially enthusiastic about the look and the magnificent finish. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of agreeing to a test drive at a dealership. What a slap in the face! handling, comfort, equipment, braking, driving pleasure and sensations.
So that's it, my Road King stayed at the dealership, and I left with a beautiful Chieftain. Certainly my last motorcycle for cruising in pairs on the roads of the old continent.

Always been a Goldwing, I've had them all, switched to a Harley Electra Glide and was really disappointed, sold it after 10 months and rediscovered the pleasure of motorcycling with my Indian. It works, it brakes, it holds the road, it's just great, a super bike. Rating : 4/5
CHIEFTAIN
French Model 2014
I've had this bike for three weeks now and it's already covered 2450 km. It's a real pleasure to ride on both small and large roads. Solo or in a duo, nothing but happiness. I owned a Victory Cross Country just before and still don't regret it lol. Rating : 5/5

All the Goldwings created over the last 40 years, the pullman of the road on two wheels, I wanted to change and took a new HD Electra, a horror, very beautiful bike but only negative points to such an extent that I almost stopped the motorcycle then my Chieftain to stay in the spirit, and there only happiness, the pleasure of driving, a very good road holding, a well balanced motorcycle, the reunion with the pleasure of motorcycling, at 59 years old I will stay with the brand. I've also ridden and owned Harley's. They have charm and qualities, but the Indian chieftain has a more modern design, and you can feel it! (comfort, roadholding, flexibility and torque, finish)
All this without sacrificing the vintage spirit and the appearance of a majestic motorcycle!
In short, it's a refreshing change from the same old HD!

De véritables sensations .........
French Model 2014
Former RT1200 BMist for 20 years.
I wanted to try something different and, frankly, I'm not disappointed with this Indian Chieftain, which has given me back a taste for motorcycle outings.
Sensations on every level, a pleasure that comes at a price of 26000â'¬
Equipped with a jekyll exhaust system, it sounds out of this world.
The accessories I confirm a little long delays.
Thank you Indian

Nearly 10,000 km on various roads and still a pleasure to ride. As for the faults that show up, nothing serious once you know the codes, except that the mechanics in Lyon aren't top-notch... It'll come with time, I hope. As for the accessories, I've been waiting since February... Rating : 5/5

in 3 months 6000km of happiness
in mid-June, a 40-minute test ride, a bit of city riding, small country roads with a lot of dirt, and the bike's handlebars are a real joy to ride: it holds its course and is so comfortable, suspension, braking, recovery, smooth controls, protection and so on... it's top-notch!
a bike that's still heavy but remarkably well-balanced, even as a duo!
small problem waiting for accessories
thank you Indian for this wonderful bike

Déjà plus de 3000kms
Excellent road behaviour on this Chieftain, good braking, reasonable fuel consumption, easy-to-handle gearbox (after the 1st revision of the 1000), a torquey engine, but if you remove the pot stickers, great noise, but you can't hear the radio, fault codes on the speedometer, only the mechanic knows what's wrong !!!!!! The controls are not illuminated at night, the passenger seat is slippery, and the accessories ordered at the same time as the bike are having trouble arriving (more than 2 months' wait!!!). Fortunately, there are few accessories Rating : 4/5

Hello Alain, are you still satisfied with the Chieftain, I'm considering converting to Indian. Thank you. Jean-Pierre Rating : 5/5
je l'ai essayé wouha !
French Model 2014
i tried out the Indian Chieftain on Saturday, and what an experience it was! First of all, it's magnificent. I won't compare it to HD, to each his own. In any case, it's imposing and rather heavy when stationary, but with almost 400 kg, that's to be expected. So you start off without the key, and it's all velvety smooth...you climb on, comfortable, everything falls nicely to hand, you're not leaning backwards because your feet are in front of you, everything's fine, you engage first gear, the gearbox is incredibly smooth, the first gear is rather long and very linear, you start off gently, it's very reassuring and perfectly smooth, then you move up in revs and gears, the smooth gearbox works just as well going up as it does going down. So you accelerate, take one bend after another with a perfect feeling of safety, and you realize that you're actually going pretty fast! On the fast lane it's bliss, and oops, we're already well over the limit. The test ride was too short and my companion was delighted, the comfort was total, the poor road surface was absorbed, it was a real treat, but the price was just too high Rating : 5/5
French
crazy!!! after riding a street gilde I find the cheftain very well finished, an electric windscreen with a system in the upper position to avoid turbulence at helmet level, a central locking system for the suitcases, extra comfort with no need to change the saddle, a sound system! a motor with a lot of torque! Rating : 5/5
La plus belle de toute
French Model 2014
61 brushes , a marvel this bike , especially on the engine side , with all this gear , I'm a mechanic , and I find this engine really great , it should be very robust . Of course, you have to like this kind of bike, not a copy of h-d, see the engine coonception, but also, the alu frame. Not released, and already detractors, wankers : what !!! Rating : 5/5

Mais pourquoi refaire une HARLEY ??!!
French Model 2014
Indian comes up with yet another archaic TWIN tumbler... y\'en marre!

In the end, reviving a brand with the sole aim of copying the most expensive and ugly HD... it's a waste of time!

Triumph has shown what it takes: a diversified range with sporty, fun, neo-retro and custom products... Based on THEIR CONCEPT: the 3-cylinder.

For Indian, it was their famous in-line 4!

You don't have to buy or look at an Indian. Obviously, what you're looking for in a bike has nothing to do with the subject. I'm 67 years old and have been a biker for over 40 years... I've had Harleys and now I have an Indian Chief... nothing but happiness and I'm not the type to ride along the coast in a T-shirt and beach slippers ....as for the comment Indian is remaking a Harley, nothing to see, neither aesthetically, nor mechanically...Indian was making bikes in 1901 before Harley started...the 4 cylinder belonged to the Henderson brand which was bought by Indian.... Obviously you don't like the twin, fortunately for you in the current production you have a good choice of multi-cylinders.... Rating : 5/5

Neither my tastes, nor my motorcycle culture, nor what I'm looking for, nor your age, nor your experience or the fact that you own one, are of interest to anyone and are not the point.

This brand, which claims to be as innovative as it is centenary, is nothing but a marketing ploy.

It seems to me that the subject of this post is our opinion of the Indian Chief ,you give yours by saying that you don't like the Twin ,I reply that I own one ,I can talk about it .... now ,if it makes you queasy ..... Rating : 4/5
I've taken the liberty of censoring terms that might offend some people (references to the site's terms of use).

Indeed, the subject here concerns the Indian Chieftain.
We are interested in the opinions of all the different people, and they may be of interest to potential buyers. But please remain cordial and discuss the models calmly.
