presentation of the KLV 1000 2005

A surprise! A big road trail bike arrives in the Kawasaki range. A wise move. The segment is buoyant, and it fills a gap for the manufacturer. A big V-twin in an aluminum perimeter frame. A nice touch. Lots of torque, plenty of luggage-carrying options, a big fuel tank. Very nice. And what does it look like?

... Uh, I think you're mistaken: it's a V-strom in the photo. But no, there's no mistake. It's Suzuki's trail bike, slightly reworked. Remember not so long ago? The two Japanese manufacturers got together to design joint models. After the 1600 MeanStreak - Marauder, here's their new clone. To give it its own identity, the KLV is differentiated from the V-strom by a black-painted frame and swingarm, a unique orange color scheme and different tank decals. It's not much - would it have been so complicated to create its own face with a different fork head?! As for the rest, from the dashboard to the engine and plastics, it's all the same.

There are no surprises to be had with this machine, and we can therefore expect the same behavior and the same strength as the big Smurf. Its 98 hp set the tone, but it's the muscular 10.3 mkg of torque that will provide an appreciable trunk space. We therefore expect the KLV 1000 to be a trail-GT that's good all round, in terms of comfort, efficiency, roadholding and enjoyment; without being the segment benchmark, which it isn't aiming to be. With an aggressive price tag, the Kawa will try to make up for its lack of originality and identity.

after the Z 1000, 750 and the thundering ZX-10R, it's surprising that the greens are reverting to a certain conformism. To make up your own mind, read theV-strom test is worth all the speeches.

Superb bike, both a bit sporty and all-round bike that can be pushed to at least 210
For beginners, I'd advise you not to take it, it's got a lot of power. Superb bike

Why didn't Suzuki think of bringing it out in black and orange? A V-Strom prettier than the original, where is Suz.'s logic? Rating : 5/5
