presentation of the Z 1000 SX 2016
by becoming an SX, the Z 1000 has opened up a new road for itself, one that covers hundreds of kilometers. And when you've got cousins like the ZX-10R and ZX-636R, packed with sport and electronics, all you have to do is ask Mr. Kawa nicely if you can do a little technology transfer. No sooner said than done in 2014. That year, the big, streamlined roadster gained an array of sensors and software, as well as subtle modifications.
the most important of these concerns the optional luggage system that grafts itself onto the Kawa's hips. With style in mind, the manufacturer has developed more dynamic cases. They are smaller (28 liters vs. 35), but can accommodate a full-face helmet, and the Z 1000 SX's slim torso doesn't exceed 925 mm. A nice touch: the fastening system is invisible once the cases are removed. And on the practical side, a single key is all you need to open the luggage compartment and activate the contactor.
kawasaki took the opportunity to revise the fork parameters, installing a radial brake master cylinder and new Tokico monobloc calipers, and improved the rear shock adjuster. A remote knob now makes it easier to adjust preload.
the 4-cylinder engine is now rated at 142 hp, an increase of 4 units, and the factory has announced that this maximum power will be reached more quickly. Great! This enthusiasm is now monitored by the in-house KTRC traction control system. 3 calculation algorithms adapt to all situations, and the rider has a choice of 2 injection mappings.
The soundtrack is also slightly modified. By the aluminum-colored pots? No, by a reformed airbox. It remains to be seen whether the suitcases will withstand the blast from the upper part of the exhausts.
With these updates, the Kawasaki Z 1000 SX will carve out a place for itself among the Sport-GTs.
background: Since the discontinuation of the big ZRX 1200 roadsters (except in Japan), the Kawa range has been devoid of big, road-leaning machines. A pity, since the other Japanese manufacturers still keep a representative in their catalog. Admittedly, the cold shower of the Z 750 S may have tempered the ardor and desires of the Z family, but Kawa is back with a much more substantial and largely surprising machine. It's the big, bad, disturbed and disruptive Z 1000 that's been chosen to take on the role of tourer. But this Z 1000 SX goes a long way.
it's not a fork head like the Fazer or Bandit, but a full fairing. With its big eyes and sporty face, it looks like an extrapolation of the ER-6 F, and even a revival of the expression of the ZRX 1200 S. The two-tone paintwork is both very expressive and seriously successful. With this all-round package, the Z 1000 SX considerably extends the roadster's range of action, especially as it also features a large, 3-position adjustable windscreen, large passenger handgrips, and a large, comfortable rear seat.passenger grips, twice as much space under the saddle as on the standard Z, a larger 19-liter fuel tank, and improved seating for the crew. The technical specifications are those of the Z 1000, so as to retain all the spirit and expression of the streetfighter of the hottest neighborhoods.

Otherwise, the bike's great. I find it a little light at high speeds or in high winds, but everyday use is easy (with side cases, that is). It's a pity this bike is also great as a sports bike without it. Rating : 3/5 Respond to Robby
