presentation of the Z 650 Performance 2017
Gone is theER-6n, gone is the Z 650. With this little roadster, Kawasaki is offering a fine successor to the model that dominated the sales podium for over a decade. Challenged by the Yamaha MT-07, it needed a shock response. The machine does just that, aided by an all-new chassis. The engine has lost a little of its gniak, but is stronger at normal revs. In short, everything's right with the little Z.
A twin-cylinder, it sings as it scrapes, blown by a flap-flap that can be combined in a multitude of ways. With the original exhaust, you don't really get the full benefit. The Performance Edition of the Z 650 will free up the score. The pack, now a staple in the range, sets the tone for a complete Akrapovic line. Made of titanium, it saves 2.15 kilos in weight. The carbon end cap adds a touch of craftsmanship and style. The gain in power is notable: the Slovenian manufacturer claims a gain of up to 4 horsepower at 5200 rpm and an improved torque of 5.3 Nm at the same rpm.
Kawa's Performance Pack enhances the sporty side of the bike, as well as its appearance. Now that the twin can breathe, let's get down to some styling. Here's a job for the matching seat cover and the little smoked windscreen. The finishing touch is a gel tank protector.
More exalted in this Performance edition, the Z 650 is more appealing to asphalt enthusiasts and young wolves. The price has inevitably risen, taking it further away from the entry-level price. But there's nothing more to add when you leave the dealership.
