presentation of the 125 XC-W 2027
XC stands for cross-country. W denotes a transmission with a wide range of gears. This model is designed for enduro events on closed circuits or for races where motorcycle homologation is not required. The KTM 125 XC-W is quite simply the lightest Enduro motorcycle, but that doesn’t mean it lacks power. It’s when things get serious that you really appreciate the qualities of an XC-W.
Engine
The KTM 125 XC-W features the same engine innovations introduced in the 2-stroke lineup. The engine is designed to centralize rotating mass and work in perfect harmony with the chassis, resulting in a light and agile ride, with all the benefits of mass centralization and reduced weight.
Electronic Fuel Injection System
The XC-W is equipped with electronic fuel injection, or TBI. Combined with a 39-mm Keihin throttle body, the ECU calculates the ideal air-fuel mixture by continuously analyzing coolant temperature, air temperature, ambient pressure, crankcase pressure, engine speed, and throttle position to ensure smooth and consistent power delivery, even under the most extreme enduro conditions. A cap protects the CPC fuel connector on all models. It prevents dirt from entering through the sides of the connector, prevents accidental opening, and also protects it from impacts by branches or rocks. The small fuel filter located in the hose remains in place and is easily accessible.
Exhaust
Thanks to its compact engine, the 125 XC-W’s exhaust manifold is designed to increase ground clearance and reduce the risk of damage when riding over large roots, deep ruts, or jagged rocks. The muffler is made of lightweight aluminum.
Selectable Map Settings
Designed for intuitive use, the Map Select selector is available as an option on all KTM XC-W models and allows you to easily choose between two unique engine maps. Map 1 offers standard power delivery that is more linear and predictable, while Map 2 has a more aggressive character, with a livelier throttle response and more direct, explosive power.
Offroad Control Unit
The Offroad Control Unit (OCU) is located under the seat and replaces all electronic fuses and relays. All outputs are continuously switched based on signals from the voltage regulator and the ECU. In the event of an overcurrent, the outputs are deactivated individually. Diagnostics are simple: the status of each output is indicated by a red or green LED. On the trails, identifying an electrical problem is as easy as lifting the seat—no need to carry around finicky fuses.
Controls
Like the entire Enduro lineup, the 125 XC-W features simple and intuitive controls. To the right of the handlebars is a sleek start/stop switch; to the left, the optional Map Select selector allows you to choose between Map 1 and Map 2.
Frame
Specially designed to offer optimal longitudinal stiffness, the 125 XC-W is built around a frame with a glossy orange powder-coated finish, ensuring exceptional rider feedback, excellent energy absorption, and great stability at high speeds. This is achieved through the repositioning of rotating masses within the frame and a forged steering column. The footpeg mounts also feature a slim design to minimize the risk of snagging.
Stability
The 125 XC-W is designed for rock-solid stability at any speed, thanks to a repositioned, forged steering column and CNC-machined fork crowns. Made from high-grade aluminum, they provide optimized steering column stiffness, perfect alignment of the fork tubes, and precise clamping geometry, resulting in a smooth and responsive fork action, with the added benefit of unwavering stability on ultra-fast special stages at full throttle.
WP XACT Closed Cartridge Fork
A 48 mm WP XACT Closed Cartridge spring fork ensures fast and consistent damping, with optimized oil flow. The result: top-level performance in all conditions. Fork seals also limit dirt intrusion. Best of all, compression and rebound can be adjusted entirely without tools.
WP XACT Shock Absorber
A true hallmark of KTM Enduro machines, the PDS rear shock concept improves the chassis’s anti-squat performance. It remains the most reliable and easiest-to-maintain solution for competition Enduro. At the rear, a lightweight WP XPLOR PDS shock absorber takes over.
Adjustments
The 125 XC-W features tool-free suspension adjustment at both the front and rear. At the rear, our legendary, race-winning PDS technology includes high- and low-speed compression settings that can be adjusted by hand in just a few seconds. Up front, the fork is just as easy to adjust thanks to the adjustment knobs located at the bottom of the fork leg and on the upper cap, allowing you to fine-tune the settings on the fly as naturally as opening the throttle.
Wheels and Tires
The 125 XC-W features high-strength GIANT alloy wheels, paired with CNC-machined hubs and aluminum nuts. It’s equipped with ultra-grippy Maxxis MaxxEnduro tires for excellent traction in all conditions.
Rear Swingarm
An ultralight rear swingarm is mounted at the rear of the main frame, featuring a two-piece construction combining polyamide and reinforced aluminum. Thanks to numerical simulations, its stiffness has been precisely tuned to deliver exceptional handling and direct rider feedback. Compact in design, it can also bend and flex in the event of a crash rather than break, while fully integrating the electronic components without any unnecessary brackets, mounts, or fasteners.
Ergonomics
The 125 XC-W features an ergonomic triangle centered on the rider, with improved contact around the knees—especially when standing on the footpegs—and optimized contact surfaces all around. The plastic components help shed mud buildup in wet conditions; the flat seat with a high-grip cover promotes freedom of movement and control; and the polyamide-reinforced aluminum rear swingarm offers unmatched feel and feedback.
Air Filter Housing
The air filter housing is designed to ensure maximum airflow while limiting water intrusion. The precise positioning of the intake ducts prevents turbulence and effectively protects the filter. Beneath the housing, an Enduro-specific splash guard prevents water and mud thrown up by the rear wheel from reaching the filter, while the Twin Air filter and its mount use a simple and secure mounting system for quick and precise installation. The result: tool-free access to the air filter for quick maintenance on the side of the track.
Fuel Tank
The transparent polyethylene (XPE) fuel tank is an iconic feature of the KTM Enduro lineup. Race-proven from GNCC to the most extreme FIM Hard Enduro events, it’s built to take a beating. A one-piece fuel pump with filter manages the fuel supply, while easy access to the filter further simplifies maintenance.
Cooling System
With its standard-threaded radiator cap, opening the radiator to top off the coolant is faster and easier. An optional radiator fan can also be installed for additional cooling.
Battery and Wiring Harness
Like the rest of the Enduro lineup, the KTM 125 XC-W is equipped with a proven and reliable electric start system. Powered by an ultra-lightweight 2 Ah lithium-ion battery, it ensures reliable and consistent starts every time you ride.
LED Headlight
To illuminate the trail, the 125 XC-W features an LED headlight assembly with a headlight cover. The cover improves protection for the fork legs against debris and eliminates the need for rubber mounting straps, allowing for a more precise fit. Most importantly, the LED unit provides powerful illumination that completely transforms night riding.
