presentation of the 950 Adventure 2005
kTM does nothing like everyone else. To launch a model on the market, it first baptizes it in competition. If it works, it goes into full-scale production. The 950 Adventure has validated its potential on the Dakar Rally and other sandy challenges. At first glance, the KTM is impressive: tall, imposing, cut to the bone, the Austrian is imposing. The mechanics are the antithesis of the design - the almost 1-liter twin is particularly compact, trapped in a chromium-molybdenum trellis frame. Climbing aboard is as easy as riding a dromedary (a little less so on the 2005 version, whose suspension has been lowered by 20 mm); everything changes once you're up there: the machine's narrowness and low center of gravity give you confidence. Doing U-turns with the machine is also part of the sport. Fortunately, once on the road, the rover becomes a ballerina. The engine is impatient and loves to be teased, never missing an opportunity to leap towards the red zone. The chassis follows suit with neutrality and ease. The balance is impeccable; you only have to look at the trajectory and the bike settles in effortlessly. Agile and stable, it's easy to forget its size - it's not particularly heavy, and the masses are well distributed. Playing is no problem: the engine expresses itself joyfully, and the clutch and gearbox are noticed only for their smoothness and efficiency. The suspension is not to be outdone. Their long travel allows you to venture off the billiard table, but they are firm enough to ensure smooth handling. Comfort loses out somewhat - but on all types of road, the Adventure's handling is superb. The brakes on the 950 speak for themselves. The double-disc brakes come into play immediately, without brutality, preventing the forks from suddenly sinking into the asphalt. A full set of equipment, a polished finish and surprisingly effective protection (given the size of the bubble) are also part of the package. A game that will be played against the BMW R 1200 GS, queen of the segment.

Well, the best thing was to take a closer look at this beautiful Austrian with a slight afterthought of "if they're all right, it'll finally be time for my granny of 14 years of loyal service to retire (an Africa from 1992)!"
Oufti! First the position... High enough to spot the traffic!
Start, Aaaaaah..... stall!
Didjûûûu, get used to the injection, no choke and don't touch the throttle when I press the starter... it starts by itself! Ah, OK, let's do it again!
Vlaaam, vlaaam! Wow, Austrians always get the highest marks when it comes to music!
Let's get the dibs, shall we?
No "clac", no latency... here we go!
Holaaaa! Easy on the throttle!
There's a real engine on there, I'm up to 6000 rpm without even realizing it, and the digital speedometer is already telling me 160 hm/h! I've been taken in by the symphony of the mighty LC8, but I'd better let go a bit if I don't want to end up on the violin!
Well, well, a roundabout... Oops, it's already gone! The brand-new scorpios really stick!
Here I am at home, and I know a corner of the garrigue that I could go and visit again, just to see how it goes where I venture out in 1st gear, 2 feet on each side, ready to restore balance at any moment with my lumbering Africa..
This is the way... I turn off the ignition, check to see if there's a green man in sight, then turn it back on and press the anti-ABS button on the dashboard for 3 seconds, it flashes, ayé it's all good, let's test where there's no tarmac!
The garrigue is notoriously rocky, so beware... Preums, deuz pis troisième, même pas peur, allez soyons fous, j'enclenche la 4 ! Amazing! I don't even feel like I'm on a 1000, the weight is so evenly distributed. Some rocks squirt out the back, but there's no slipping - the scorpios are doing a great job there too! Okay, I get it, where my Africa goes, the Adventure goes!
Back to the dealership... perhaps the hardest part of the test, sniff!
After a few little "vlam-vlam" on the main road, just to let you know that I'm only a "weak 2-wheeler", a few nice cashiers kindly step aside to clear the way for me to the dealership
End of story: where do we sign?
Now, just a few more days of patience and... the sweet music of this beautiful Austrian!
Frankly, you've all convinced me... but trying it out is even better! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Dom
