presentation of the 250 SX-F 2012
what better proof of the 250 SX-F's superiority than three consecutive MX2 world championship titles? But KTM isn't resting on its laurels. The new model takes things a step further, with a redesigned chassis and an electric starter that is useful in many situations. So that the smallest four-stroke in KTM's MX range continues to guarantee podium places.
engine
The 250 SX-F's compact, ultra-modern DOHC four-stroke engine features an electric starter as standard for the 2012 model year. Derived directly from Marvin Musquin's world-champion motorcycle, it sparkles with power and performance across a wide rev range, from the lowest to beyond the theoretical maximum.
distribution
The cylinder head with its two overhead camshafts houses the four titanium valves actuated by extremely light carbon rocker arms. The 250 SX-F's elaborate valve train, ultra-light piston and extremely short stroke allow engine speeds of up to 13,400 rpm.
engine Management System (EMS)
The Keihin Engine Management System with electronic fuel injection ensures spontaneous engine response and maximum performance. An optional "Map Select" selector allows different engine characteristics to be activated.
frame
The 250 SX-F's modern frame, made of high-quality chrome-molybdenum steel, is not only extremely light and torsionally rigid. It is also distinguished by its particularly well-balanced geometry, which combines childlike manoeuvrability with formidable precision.
linkage suspension swingarm
The 250 SX-F's progressive rear suspension contributes to its extraordinary handling and extreme traction. The lightweight aluminum swingarm is designed for optimum resistance to lateral torsion, while the now firmer WP shock absorber is mounted via a linkage for great progressiveness and a wide range of adjustment.
telescopic fork
The upside-down telescopic fork has been further improved, with closed-cartridge technology and a slightly firmer adjustment for even less bottoming. The WP fork, with its 48 mm (1.89 in) tubes, is a major contributor to the 250 SX-F's extraordinary handling.
eMS
The Keihin Engine Management System with electronic fuel injection and electronic throttle control guarantees spontaneous engine response and maximum performance. An optional "Map Select" selector allows different engine characteristics to be activated.
electric starter
For years, KTM has been proving that an electric starter is a great advantage, even in motocross. That's why the 250 SX-F can now be started at the touch of a button. Weight fanatics can remove the electric starter and replace it with a kick.
bodywork
The 250 SX-F's bodywork, with its slim seat and spoiler lines and excellent contact points, further perfects its ergonomics, making it even easier and more precise to ride.
