presentation of the 500 EXC 2013
for those who always want a little more, KTM has created the 500 EXC. Power to spare but perfectly dosable, featherweight and inimitable chassis are the attributes of a remarkably versatile enduro: a super-powerful fighting machine, a workhorse of absolute reliability, unquestionably the benchmark for weight and handling. In any case, it's impossible to ignore the 500 EXC when it comes to the E3 podium.
frame
in keeping with KTM tradition, the frames are made from top-quality lightweight chromium-molybdenum steel. Combined with a PDS damping system at the rear, they are designed to perfectly absorb any shocks the rear wheel may inflict on the frame. Contrary to the trend towards aluminum frames among our competitors, we supply high-tech steel frames that weigh around 0.5 kg less than the lightest frames on the market. What's more, our frames are easy to maintain and leave more space for the fuel tank and other components.
clutch
the clutch housing with timing gear is machined from a single piece of high-strength steel. The result is unbeatable reliability. It also allows the use of thinner steel plates. The result is an extremely compact design and a slimmer motor. An elastic washer enables additional hub damping - an invaluable advantage in terms of traction and gearbox durability. The Brembo hydraulic clutch and spring washer ensure easy, controllable progressiveness.
cylinder head
the SOHC cylinder head features an overhead camshaft that drives titanium intake valves and steel exhaust valves. The entire configuration has been optimized for Keihin's EFI system to enhance the handling and performance of the 2013 KTM 500 EXC.
balancer shaft
thanks to a clever design, KTM engineers have succeeded in developing a small, laterally positioned balancer shaft that also acts as a water pump drive.
fork
all KTM EXC models feature the new generation of adjustable 48 mm Open Cartridge forks "Made in Austria" by WP Suspension. Each model is individually tuned, and the new fork oil offers improved response for consistent damping characteristics.
new wheels
kTM wheels with CNC-machined hubs of proven quality come as standard. They feature new, extremely robust GIANT 7050 aluminum rims, while the spokes are now black-coated to improve corrosion resistance. New MAXXIS FIM tires specially designed for KTM offer excellent grip, precise handling and long life.
brakes
Brembo brakes are standard on KTM off-road bikes, with lightweight Wave disc brakes for optimum performance in terms of progressiveness and stopping power. The improved rear brake cylinder features a new design that ensures less wear on the rubber seals, and therefore longer life.
cladding
one of the main objectives was to develop an ergonomically slim fairing with optimum contact points between rider and machine. It offers unlimited freedom of movement. Redesigned graphics give the new models a more modern look.
