since 2016, the KTM RC 390 has had a very special status: it is now the most powerful sports bike in the KTM range. An amusing and ubiquitous situation, given the disappearance from the catalog of the 1190 RC8-R.
The RC 390 benefited from a slight evolution, mainly technical. The lines remained virtually unchanged, with the RC standing out from the rest of the segment thanks to its quirky face and perfusing Katoche spirit. Where the RC 390 II stands out is in the indentation of its wheels. Euro4 standards have made a clean sweep of the underbody. The under-engine exhaust is no more, and becomes a conventional aluminum model, migrating to the side of the rear wheel.
And since there's no longer any need to hide the silencer, the fairing is reduced to its simplest form.

although the RC 390 is aimed primarily at budding sportsmen and women, and is not afraid of being overwhelmed by its power (44 hp), it has not shied away from technological and electronic improvements. The engine is bolstered by an anti-dribble clutch, handy for wild deceleration, and a Ride-by-Wire gas pedal. Braking, still with disconnectable ABS, is more powerful, with a 20 mm larger disc (now 320 mm). Brake and clutch levers are now adjustable. And the distinctive passenger seat has been made more comfortable with more foam.

without changing the game, the RC 390 strengthens its position in a segment where contenders are few and far between, but deserve attention. Who are they? Yamaha R3, Kawasaki Ninja 400, Benelli Tornado 302 and this KTM. In addition to its no-nonsense mono, one of the machine's assets is its weight. At 147 kilos, this RC promises to be carried like a bird between squirrels. The chassis will keep up. The differences with the Duke 390 lie in the geometry of the rigid trellis frame, which has been reworked for greater dynamism. The tilt angle of the steering column and the shorter caster and wheelbase contribute to the responsiveness of the RC models, which are much more at ease on the racetrack. Compared to roadster suspensions, travel has been reduced and settings are more incisive. The tubes of the 43 mm WP inverted fork are the same diameter as those of the former Superbike 1190 RC8-R.
