Cruiser

a mix of MGX-21 (flying-fortress) design on an Audace base with carbon cladding: that's basically the recipe for this Moto-Guzzi Audace carbon 2017!

carbon is present on the front and rear mudguards, as well as on the tank. This depth is enhanced by firecracker red on the cylinder heads and Brembo brake calipers. A discreet, yet prominent, saddle trim accentuates the overall look.

powering all this is the big 1400 V-twin 90°, now labelled Euro 4. New lambda probes and a reworked catalytic converter, among other features.

when you climb aboard, you'll be treated to a lower seat and handlebars with arms positioned lower and further apart than on the basic Audace. You'll also have access to a new cruise control. And if you fancy a solo ride, you can remove the passenger seat to give the machine an even more radical look. Finally, thanks to the optional MG-MP system (Guzzi's multimedia platform), it will also be possible to connect your smartphone to the machine via a free app.

a few aesthetic touches and a few ergonomic modifications for this"flying fortress" Audace or this"Audacisée" flying fortress. The choice is yours! And those who were hesitating between the two models should be delighted.

French Gilles Model 2019
The words to describe the california 1400 audace carbon are "Elegant, Luxurious, Sporty, Racy"
Low, long, stocky, spectacular, it's a 2-wheeled Ford Mustang
The view from the handlebars of the very large fuel tank, from which the magnificent red cylinder head covers protrude, is sublime
The few visible bolts are embellished with beautiful conical washers
From the outset, this bike is uncluttered and appears to have been tastefully customized, with exhaust silencers, rims, taillights, carbon..

Its admittedly high purchase price is consistent with its class.
It has a very strong identity, and attracts as much interest from passers-by as HARLEY or INDIAN
The word that comes up in every discussion is "ORIGINAL"
In fact, since its release in 2003, I haven't seen a single model from the 1400 range on the road

Fuel consumption is around
- City 8 liters / 100km (or much more)
- 6 litres/ 100km (eco driving)
- Freeway 5.5 litres/100km (with cruise control locked at 100km/h)

It's a dream cruiser that runs on a trickle of gas between 60 and 90 km/h, and loves big curves and gentle slopes.
A little less so in town and on small roads, where braking before each bend after short acceleration doesn't give much pleasure and causes fuel consumption to soar
On the other hand, if the road is straight and you open up the throttle, it's a fast car, a satellite launcher.
Its acceleration makes you feel as if you're about to break the sound barrier, even though the speedometer reads 90 km/h
At higher speeds on the freeway, overtaking is a breeze
Speaking of pleasure, there's also the pleasure of admiring it in front of beautiful scenery, like a bottle of luxury perfume sitting on a dressing table (this Audace deserves marble on the floor and mirrors on the garage walls)

I confess I bought this Guzzi with the apprehension of the unknown
I even had the feeling in the early days that I'd made a mistake, given its price, its steep discount on occasion, its fuel consumption, but above all my wife's dissatisfaction with the saddle
But if our choices were just rational, we'd all be riding HONDAs or BMWs
There's something more to riding a GUZZI, a bit like riding a HARLEY I suppose.

To sum up, this bike has flaws that would put off even the most ardent GUZZI lover
And yet, once you've got it, you'll love it
Today, I've got a dragster sleeping in the garage, and when I take it out, I'm like "I love it"
The last time I had this much fun on a bike was on my sister's 102 Peugeot on my 14th birthday
This GUZZI is my most beautiful and probably last bike worthy of the name
It's a stunning tribute to the glory of flamboyant, unreasonable machines before the switch to electric

If you own this bike, I'd be interested to hear what you think
And if you own another one, why didn't you choose it?
That's the question I'm asking myself, why is this fantastic bike so under-sold?

Hello
Lucky owner of a red version: I love it!
Installation of audace carbon handlebars: two holes to be drilled for commodos)
Calif gel saddle installation: a little DIY to move the two front brackets
Sport bubble installation: it takes a little time to make two L-shaped supports under the headlight
Now it's great for riding comfort
My third guzzi: I love this machine: cool and rough at the same time, it's great for leisurely rides with pace (and how!) and furious acceleration and acceleration from the bottom of the lap counter. Don't get too excited, though, as it rubs quickly and is heavy, so take it easy in the bends all the same
Good driving and lots of fun

French Gilles Model 2019
At the age of 10, I dreamily pasted the image of a Guzzi 850 California into my "SUPER MOTO PANINI" album.
For a 40 kg kid, this huge, inaccessible machine was reserved for men.
Forty-five years later, here I am behind the wheel of its heir, a monster both to look at and to ride, a 1400 cm3 Moto Guzzi Audace Carbon.
The words to describe it are "Elegant, Luxurious, Sporty, Racy".
It's low, long, stocky, spectacular - a Ford Mustang on 2 wheels.
The view from the handlebars of the very large fuel tank, from which the magnificent red cylinder head covers protrude, is sublime.
The dragbar handlebars make all fastenings disappear.
The few visible bolts are embellished with beautiful conical washers.
From the outset, this bike is uncluttered and looks as if it has been tastefully customized, with exhaust silencers, rims, taillights and carbon…

Its high purchase price is consistent with its class.
It has a very strong identity and arouses the interest of passers-by just as much as HARLEY or INDIAN.
The adjective that comes up in every discussion is "ORIGINAL".
In fact, since its release in 2003, I haven't seen a single model from the 1400 range on the road.

But not everything is perfect.
I spent 10 years with a California 1100 Stone, which I regret for its simplicity.
Back then, no engine mapping, no ride by wire, the bike was "alive".
The engine gurgled, reacted to riding errors (and broke down too).
There was a delightful interplay between rider, engine and road.
The old model's shortcomings made it great to ride.
But bikes as tasty as these old Californias are sadly no longer made, even by Guzzi.
The new 1400 cm3 engine is more powerful and certainly more reliable, but it's also smoother, like car engines.

The other question about the Audace is why the designers of this model treated the passenger in this way, by making a mini wooden saddle.
The passenger's buttocks won't be able to stand it for more than 50 km.
From the very first outing, my couple was in danger of being turned down for another ride.
Fortunately, a comfort saddle for the California Custom with gel inserts is available on the Internet (part no. 2S 0000 63 for around 210 euros).
However, some adaptation is required (changing the length and position of the 2 front supports).
This more substantial saddle transforms the machine's appearance.
On the other hand, it allows two people to spend a long day on the road without tiring.
A little versatility is the least we can do for a bike of this price.
What's more, the sissybar/ pack carrier from hepco becker can be attached to the saddle, and the Audace is ready for a weekend away.

Of course, maintenance costs are higher than the average motorcycle.
Well, not that much more than the endless pleasure of riding it.
Insurance: 400euros
Rear tire: 200euros
Front tire: 100euros
1000km service: 250euros

Fuel consumption is approx:
8 litres/ 100km in town
7 liters / 100km on the highway
6 litres/ 100km on the freeway

Fortunately, the California 1400 also has qualities:
- The overall size has doubled, which is extremely rewarding, especially when the rider is bulky himself.
- The engine pushes very, very hard and seems to have no limits.
- This bike is no longer an assembly of parts like the old California, but a coherent, homogeneous whole (haute couture).
- A noteworthy detail is that you no longer need to remove the crankcase to change the oil filter.

It‘s a motorcycle for pleasure, a dream cruiser that runs on a trickle of throttle between 60 and 90 km/h, and loves big curves and gentle slopes.
A little less so in town and on small roads, where braking before each bend after short bursts of acceleration doesn't provide much pleasure and causes fuel consumption to soar.
On the other hand, if the road is straight and you open up the throttle, it's a racing car, a satellite launcher.
Its acceleration makes you feel as if you're about to break the sound barrier, even though the speedometer reads 90 km/h.
At higher speeds on the freeway, overtaking is a breeze.
Speaking of pleasure, there's also the pleasure of admiring it in front of beautiful scenery, like a bottle of luxury perfume on a dressing table (this Audace deserves marble floors and mirrors on the garage walls).

Oh, and I forgot, this little-known motorcycle is a great way to sort out your acquaintances,
So, if some people say "why did you buy that?" translate that they have no more regard for this bike than they do for you, your tastes, your ideas, your differences…
Unless they're the ones who are too conventional…
A bit like my childhood "buddies" who, by dint of mockery, ended up making me ashamed of my 50 PUCH, even though it was a great moped.
At the time, it was a must in my neighborhood to ride the same orange MOTOBECANE as the gang leader or his lieutenant's blue CIAO.

I confess I bought this Guzzi with the apprehension of the unknown.
I even had the feeling in the early days that I'd made a mistake, given its price, its steep discount on occasion, its fuel consumption, but above all my wife's dissatisfaction with the saddle.
But if our choices were just rational, we'd all be riding HONDAs or BMWs.
