presentation of the 800 Turismo Veloce Lusso SCS 2020
Having a good-looking motorcycle is no longer enough to attract premium customers. Hungry for technology and above-average dynamic and/or technical performance, the modern motorcyclist expects more than just two wheels, an engine and handlebars.
Especially when it comes to MV-Agusta. For the Italian manufacturer, touring is a fast-paced affair, and this is reflected in the 800 Turismo Veloce. More yachting than touring, in fact.
This crossover features a new clutch-assist technology, which MV has christened SCS. What's it all about?
this acronym stands for "Smart Clutch System". An automatic system that manages the clutch by itself. To achieve this, the Italian engineers worked with Rekluse to develop a very special set of discs and components. One of the discs, fitted with counterweights, acts on the clutch via centrifugal forging, under the action of an electronic controller. As a result, the engine speed determines the clutch engagement and disengagement phases.
SCS-equipped Turisme Veloce models can be recognized by their striking transparent cover. And to satisfy purists, the clutch handle is still there, as the system works "in duo": you can choose to shift gears conventionally or automatically at any time.
MV has taken advantage of this new technology to install a parking brake, activated by the rear brake.
with the Smart Clutch System, the Varese-based company aims to offer a smoother, more precise gearshift, which comes in very handy when cruising around town. No need to touch the lever, except to start the engine. This semi-automatic clutch adds to the 800 TV's already impressive high-tech content. These include Skyhook semi-active suspension, TFT color display, GPS, heated grips, four riding modes, traction control, cruise control, shifter, engine parameter settings, ABS, Bluetooth.... Arrrgg! A business jet, the motorcycle. Who'd like to take off with 110 horses in the boiler? And deservedly so, because Italian mechanics have character.
Last but not least, the process is so well designed that it takes up no more space or weight than a conventional unit. On the other hand, this dessert weighs down an already hefty bill. Expect to pay an extra 1,700 euros to ease the burden on your left hand.
