What does WorldSBK look like in the short and medium term?

The Superbike riders will be back in action in 10 days' time. In the meantime, the organization is preparing for the future, and seems to have already made up its mind on a number of points.

Aragon remains on the WSBK calendar until 2027

This is the news of the week in WorldSBK: MotorLand Aragon, the famous Spanish circuit, will continue to host the World Superbike Championship until 2027 after signing a new agreement with the Aragon government. The circuit, which has been part of the Superbike calendar since 2011, has recently undergone extensive renovation, improving 75,000 m² of track, installing 700 metres of new vibrators, and updating the clearance zones to International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) standards.

These improvements underline MotorLand Aragon's and the region's commitment to supporting world-class racing. A commitment already noted by Dorna Sports last spring, which assured it of a continued presence on the MotoGP calendar until 2026.

Gregorio Lavilla, Executive Director of WorldSBK, and Manuel Blasco, President of MotorLand Aragonont, expressed their satisfaction at this renewal, without which the lease would have expired next September:

Gregorio Lavilla, WorldSBK Executive Director
We're delighted to be securing the future of Superbike racing at MotorLand Aragon. Its spectacular layout makes it a favorite among motorcycle enthusiasts. Here, we witness exciting racing that represents a major challenge for all competitors.
Manuel Blasco, President of MotorLand Aragon
With this new three-year contract, we are bringing stability to the circuit's calendar. This event is very important for the image of Aragon, as it brings together some 30,000 participants at our facilities.

Jack Miller in SBK, Álvaro Bautista already forgotten?

Alvaro Bautista's future with Ducati looks increasingly uncertain.

Aragon, a track that Jack Miller could ride again beyond the first weekend of September (12ᵉ round of MotoGP). At the end of his contract with KTM in MotoGP, Ducati would be a plausible drop-off point for the Australian, in SBK. An arrival necessarily implies a departure: that of Álvaro Bautista, who has been offered a contract well below his expectations. A solution is expected in the coming weeks.

Upcoming program and news

MotorLand Aragon will host the 10ᵉ round of the World Superbike Championship from September 27 to 29, as will the WorldSSP, WorldSSP 300 categories and the FIM Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup.

Before that, the 7ᵉ and next round of the championship will be held at the Pirelli Portuguese Round in Portimao from August 9 to 11, with an innovative approach: the races will be staggered until sunset. Activities will start at midday, with the Superbike races taking place at 19:00 local time (20:00 in mainland France). This initiative aims to enrich the appeal of motorcycle sport and engage a wider audience, offering a festival atmosphere with snacks, music, and much more.

After the rewarding weekend at Autodrom Most in mid-July, we're expecting the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve to be the scene of some exciting action to kick off the second half of the season.
