When AI and Yamaha redefine the motorcycle of the future

When anime meets technological innovation, the result can be surprising. Featured in the animated series Tokyo Override, the Yamaha Y/AI goes beyond fiction to become a tangible prototype. Designed in collaboration with Netflix, this futuristic (avant-garde?) model embodies both Yamaha's technological vision and the aesthetics of an ultra-modernized Tokyo 100 years in the future.

Tokyo Override on Netflix: the universe that brings the Y/AI to life

The story of Tokyo Override, broadcast on Netflix since November 21, 2024, highlights an ultra-automated Tokyo where artificial intelligence rules daily life. Amarin, the heroine, pilots the Y/AI in thrilling chases through this futuristic metropolis. A true symbol of freedom, the motorcycle plays a central role, embodying resistance to an entirely controlled society.

The Y/AI is much more than just a vehicle imagined for a science-fiction universe. It represents a fusion of racing design and advanced technology. Inspired by MotoGP's Yamaha YZR-M1, the Y/AI retains a sporty riding position while adopting a resolutely futuristic style. Fabio Quartararo and Àlex Rins(main photo) quickly got to grips with it on test.

A concept born of "back to the future

Taking its aggressive, elegant lines from the YZR-M1, the Y/AI demonstrates that Yamaha doesn't just envision the future, but actually makes it a reality. The Y/AI model, featured in the series, came to life thanks to in-depth cooperation between Yamaha Motor's Creative Center and Netflix's production teams.

A variety of motorcycles on the small screen

To enhance the realism of the Tokyo Override animated series, Yamaha provided detailed 3D data and engine sound recordings of its renowned models, such as the YZF-R1 and VMAX. The Honda CB1300 is also included. As a result, the anime's chase scenes benefit from immersive sound, in keeping with the machines' true performance.

By collaborating with the film and series platform, Yamaha demonstrates its ability to combine innovation and storytelling. More than an aesthetic concept, the Y/AI is intended to reflect a broader reflection on the role of bikes in a future where AI could transform our modes of transport.

Join us at Motor Expo 2024 to discover "IRL" this life-size vision of the future, and perhaps get a glimpse of a technological vision where motorcycle innovation could lead us into the next century... Who knows!
