News Sena is launching its connected helmet as part of its connected adventure with the Outlander.

A black Sena Outlander helmet

Sena is expanding its product line by entering the crossover and all-terrain motorcycle market. The intercom specialist is entering the off-road helmet market with the Outlander. This new model comes equipped with built-in audio, communication, and safety technologies, shaking up the standards of the adventure segment.

Extended connectivity for group rides

In trail and adventure riding, communication between riders is often essential for safety and navigation. To address the challenges of groups that spread out on the trails, the Outlander features two distinct technologies:
- Mesh Intercom 3.0: enables constant communication up to a distance of 2 km.
- Wave Intercom: uses the cellular network to offer theoretically unlimited range.

The entire system boasts a claimed battery life of 20 hours of talk time.

Ergonomics and Thermal Comfort

To address the physical demands of the sport, the manufacturer has focused on moisture and heat management. The helmet features a semi-oval internal shape and is lined with quick-drying COOLMAX fabric.

In terms of ergonomics, operating the controls while wearing gloves has been simplified. The interface consists of a four-button panel with a central joystick, complemented by dedicated controls for activating Mesh and Wave modes, to minimize distractions while riding.

“With the Outlander, we didn’t design an adventure helmet and then add an intercom as an afterthought,” explains Vlada Bokza, Head of Motorcycle Marketing for Europe at Sena. “We conceived the entire system from the start as a single, integrated product […]. It is designed and manufactured by Sena, ensuring complete control from the initial sketch to the final product.”

Modularity: From Road to Trail

To adapt to changing terrain, the Outlander relies on modularity. The off-road visor can be removed without tools using manual screws, while the main screen—which is Pinlock-compatible—can be quickly removed, even when the visor is in place. This configuration makes it easy to switch from the original screen to using motocross goggles.

Passive and active safety

Beyond its connected features, the helmet meets current safety standards:
- Structure: Composite fiberglass shell combined with a multi-density EPS liner.
- Certification: Complies with the strict ECE 22.06 standard.
- Active visibility: Features front lights and an adaptive taillight. The latter incorporates an accelerometer that switches the lighting from "parking" mode to an emergency braking signal during sharp decelerations.
