presentation of the V-Strom 800 D.E. Djebel 2024
The name "Djebel" naturally sounds like a desert or an African coastline, or even a relief deep in Arabia. This is not entirely untrue, as a Djebel refers to a mountain range. For Suzuki fans and trail connoisseurs, the name recalls great moments with the DR 600 / 650 of the 80s.
The Djebel is to Suzuki trail bikes what the old Ténéré was to Yamaha XTs. These basic, all-purpose bikes were more prepared for adventure than standard DRs, with a larger fuel tank, a more protective engine cover, a rear-mounted tool kit and a brake-disc guard. Suzuki Italy has taken up part of the idea with this special "Djebel" series of the V-Strom 800 D.E. To go crawling on the Dakar? No, rather to believe in the past.
Back in the days when DR 600s were able to tackle any terrain. The V-Strom Djebel remembers those days with a vintage blue and white interior. A rather successful vintage dress, even nicer than the colors offered as standard. The 21" and 17" spoked wheels are swapped for Dunlop Trailmax Raid off-road tires.
Under its arid moniker, the mid-range V-strom features a titanium Akrapovic exhaust system with carbon tip and heat shield. The Slovenian element saves 1.2 kg in weight and slightly increases power and torque at mid-range.
But unlike its ancestor, there's no large fuel tank. The technical and mechanical parts are the same, with an 84-hp parallel twin, large Showa suspensions that are almost fully adjustable, an Up&Down shifter, 3 riding modes, traction control and rear ABS.
For the moment, this special edition is only available in Italy. But let's hope the idea germinates beyond the mountains.
